Role Overview
Provide technical expertise using expansive operations and regulatory knowledge in identifying, defining and solving industrial hygiene problems across Trail Operations.
Assess and perform occupational health issues and testing, lead and coordinate industrial hygiene programs, provide recommendations, and communicate results. Lead and execute the coordination of industrial hygiene programs and projects at Trail Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Lead and support industrial hygiene programs and initiatives to improve workplace health, reduce exposure risks, and enhance operational performance.
- Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring and assessments, including air quality, noise, ventilation, biological monitoring, gas testing, and exposure sampling. Analyze and communicate results with actionable recommendations.
- Partner with operations, maintenance, contractors, leadership, and union representatives to identify hazards, investigate exposure concerns, and implement effective controls.
- Provide industrial hygiene expertise for capital projects, shutdowns, risk assessments, incident investigations, and safe work planning activities.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve industrial hygiene procedures, monitoring programs, quality assurance processes, and exposure databases.
- Manage asbestos, hearing conservation, indoor air quality, respiratory protection, and other occupational health programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
- Assess and recommend exposure monitoring, containment, ventilation, and personal protective equipment (PPE) solutions to mitigate workplace hazards.
- Coordinate specialized testing programs and external service providers while maintaining required records, schedules, equipment, and program documentation.
- Prepare technical reports, communicate findings, and provide recommendations to support informed health and safety decision-making.
- Maintain knowledge of site operations, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices to support continuous improvement.
- Mentor and provide guidance to students, employees, and stakeholders on industrial hygiene practices and occupational health requirements.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in health and safety or a science related field of study such as chemistry, biology, or environmental science. Preference will be given to specific education in industrial hygiene
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and associated technical standards
- Knowledge of Trail Operations plants, including their layout and basic processes
- Able to perform physically demanding work within all plants and facilities at Trail Operations
- Able to work afterhours and weekends for planned and unplanned emergency work
- Good interpersonal skills for effective communication
- Ability to work both independently and within groups or teams from a variety of departments
- Proficient in the use of a personal computer including office and scientific software
- Enthusiastic and versatile, willing to take on responsibility
Pay Range: CAD $null - $null per year
