About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Reporting to the Manager Mine, the Superintendent, Mine Maintenance is accountable for the execution of maintenance activities of the HVC mobile fleet and maintenance facilities. This includes the staffing, budgeting, coordination, and execution of maintenance activities in a safe, productive, and cost-effective fashion.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Embed safe work systems and practices
  • Promote a work environment which supports safe and efficient behaviour on the job and an awareness of and compliance with environmental, safety, engineering, and Mines Act requirements
  • Actively support the career development of the Mine Maintenance team members appropriately
  • Ensure compliance with the process for management of emerging maintenance work (urgent / unplanned) within the limits of the Integrated Plan
  • Maximize availability of all mine equipment through the safe execution of predictive maintenance activities and effective maintenance planning
  • Execute maintenance in line with relevant standards to ensure the plan is achieved, resulting in high levels of equipment reliability
  • Support continued improvement in operating times and production through efficient and timely planning, implementing betterments and capital projects
  • Maintain the production capability of the mine operating equipment by performing long-range planning, establishing preventative maintenance programs, integrating the maintenance work forces, and developing solutions to critical maintenance problems
  • Collaborate with the Mine Operations, Maintenance & Asset Management and Mine Planning teams to ensure that overall site production targets are met
  • Participate in the development of departmental budgets and plans, monitoring and control of compliance, and accountability for plan variances

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of mining practices, equipment capabilities, mechanical/electrical maintenance principles, budgeting/costing systems, maintenance planning systems, and appropriate regulations and standards
  • A BSc. in Engineering or technical accreditation aligned with the role
  • Have a minimum 10 years’ of progressively senior level experience, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Proven and exemplary leadership and supervisory skills
  • Advanced analytical problem solving and decision making abilities
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) skills as well as high level organization skills is required
  • Ability to work effectively with other roles in a team environment
  • Capability to adapt to changing priorities and workload in a fast-paced environment

Pay Range: CAD $164,000 - $202,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
