Manager, Health and Safety

Job Summary:

We are looking for energetic and dynamic individuals to join our growing project team! San Nicolas is a large undeveloped copper-zinc VHMS deposit located in Zacatecas State in Central Mexico. The project has recently completed a Pre-feasibility Study and is advancing into Feasibility Study applying for major regulatory approvals. San Nicolas is committed to advancing the asset towards development, and we are hiring new team members to support engineering and permit-related activities leading up to a sanction decision for construction anticipated in 2024.

Reporting to Project Manager Mexico, Health and Safety Manager is responsible for generating and implementing annual and multi-year Occupational Health and Safety strategies for the San Nicolas Project. This includes the management and implementation of the annual budget; management of human resources of your department; and the operational implementation of the applicable aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, including compliance with applicable internal and external regulatory requirements, according to the activities carried out in the project.  

In particular, the Health and Safety Manager is responsible for promoting the corporate health and safety culture so that all activities are carried out safely, and everyone returns home healthy and safe every day.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader who complies with and sponsors the company's environmental and health and safety standards and procedures.
  • Generate and implement health and safety system plans and strategies to ensure that all Project activities are carried out in a healthy and safe environment and all internal and external Project regulations are complied with.
  • Ensure that all facilities, offices, equipment, light vehicles, and heavy machinery meet the requirements and standards established internally and externally.
  • Implementation of Safe Operating Procedures (SOP) for all activities carried out in the project.
  • Ensure that the internal personnel and contractors of the project comply with the corresponding accreditations to carry out their activities and comply with training, awareness, and competence required for risk management and mitigation.  
  • Generate health and safety risk and performance metrics and produce reports that include indicators and trends of incidents, and security alerts, among others.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the Project Emergency Plan in conjunction with the Risk Management department
  • Maintain a compliance plan for Health and Safety obligations applicable in the jurisdiction, including a schedule of regulatory inspections of the corresponding authorities.
  • Work very closely with the different departments of the project and be familiar with all activities to identify mitigations in advance according to the risks to which staff will be exposed.
  • Pay special attention to Health and Safety policies; Human Rights; and Anti-Corruption, among others.
  • Continuously monitor all risk factors in the execution of activities and execute corrective actions as required.
  • Understand and apply the principles of hazard identification and risk assessment and mitigation, particularly high-potential risks.

Qualifications:

  • University degree, or equivalent work experience. A relevant graduate or specialization degree is preferred.
  • English language proficiency, desirable
  • 10 + years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced skills, knowledge, and experience in Health and Safety management
  • Knowledge of the International Standards (IOS, OHSAS) and applicable Mexican NOM.
  • Direct hands-on experience in the relevant Health and Safety aspects of field mining activities, including drilling.
  •  Demonstrable experience in permitting management and compliance with obligations of a mining project.
  • Experience in relations with the Government, and different Communities of Interest
  • Management of documentation and records on standard digital platforms
  • Administrative knowledge for resource management
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions
  • Excellent skills in planning and execution of programs and activities
  • Skills to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to handle emerging issues and prioritize projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to conduct work activities safely according to safety guidelines and policies.
  • Ability to manage and lead others through guidance, mentoring and training.
