Coordinator, Community Engagement

Job Summary:

We are looking for energetic and dynamic individuals to join our growing project team! San Nicolas is a large undeveloped copper-zinc VHMS deposit located in Zacatecas State in Central Mexico. The project has recently completed a Pre-feasibility Study and is advancing into Feasibility Study applying for major regulatory approvals. San Nicolas is committed to advancing the asset towards development, and we are hiring new team members to support engineering and permit-related activities leading up to a sanction decision for construction anticipated in 2024.

Reporting to the Community Affairs Management, the Coordinator, Community Engagement participates in the integral operational implementation of the Social Management programs, with special emphasis on the application of Social Relationship Techniques, including Dialogue, identifying, and reporting the perceived or real Social Risks associated with the development of the Project in all its stages and collaborating in achieving and maintaining its social acceptance.

In particular, the Coordinator, Community Engagement executes the community relations programs that are applied following the policies, protocols, standards, and tools established by the Corporate, as well as duly reporting the effectiveness of the results obtained in the context of managing expectations, managing social risk, and following up on concerns, feedback, and complaints through the application of an effective Dialogue.

Responsibilities:

  • To be a courageous safety leader, who adheres to and sponsors safety standards and procedures in all health, education, water care, and environmental contexts.
  • Understand, adapt, and promote Teck's Culture of Courageous Safety Leadership.
  • Participate in the social risk analysis of the Project periodically and support the development of mitigation measures and strategies through Community Relations programs that include Dialogue and Public Participation.
  • Proactively participate in the identification and validation of investment and community development opportunities in the influence area that have a lasting and sustainable impact, especially on the most vulnerable population. 
  • Participate in collaborative alliances for the development of community projects.
  • Support in the implementation and coordination of the training strategy and skills development to promote local employability.
  • Use the tools and techniques of Dialogue and SMART (Social Management and Responsibility at Teck). Participates in the proper implementation of the Social Management Plan.
  • Establish and implement social dialogue processes.
  • Properly channel requests for support received in coordination with the Community Investment area.
  • Canalize the inputs received in the feedback and complaints mechanism, implementing dialogue processes focused on respect for the human rights of the IOCs.
  • Participate in the recording of relevant interactions with COI.
  • Contribute to the mapping of IOC and establish guidelines and guidelines for its integration and updating.
  • Participate in the Unified Management System according to the assignments received.
  • Participate in community meetings in coordination with the Community Investment area.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum experience of 5 years in the field of community relations and social management.
  • Degree and specialization in social sciences, sustainability, community development, or other fields related to community relations and/or social management.
  • Knowledge of the socioeconomic, historical, and cultural environment of the Zacatecan semi-desert and the central table of Mexico.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Technical communication in Spanish and English.
  • Leadership and teamwork.
  • Office parcel management (Database analysis, ArcGis).
