Role Overview

 

Reporting to the Manager, Structural Geology, while working together with discipline leads within the Geoscience, Reserves & Mining (GRM) sub-functions, the Senior Project Structural Geologist leads structural geology initiatives at our operations and development projects to support 1) definition of resource estimation controls; 2) geotechnical design and performance; 3) delineation of additional resources. In close collaboration with peers and geotechnical SMEs, the ideal candidate is responsible for assessing, developing and implementing standard processes and guidelines related to structural geology.

 

The Senior Project Structural Geologist works collaboratively with Latin American and North American technical and planning groups and site teams to build upon and improve existing long-, medium- and short-term structural models. They are recognized as a structural geology leader who combines the highest technical standards with strong work ethic, collaboration, and leadership skills to foster cross-discipline geoscience and multi-disciplinary integration.

 

The successful candidate will cultivate internal and external partner engagement to hone their core competencies, critical thinking and innovation skills whilst staying abreast of emerging trends, advances related to the understanding of structural deposit settings, and new technologies that could positively impact the practice of structural geology across Teck’s assets.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Work closely with SMEs within the Technical and Planning and site teams as required for producing fit for purpose structural geology models
  • Conduct comprehensive structural mapping, analyses and 3D modeling, and integrating multi-disciplinary datasets to support resource estimation, resource growth, and geotechnical programs
  • Drive the development and implementation of structural geology standards and guidelines and ensure alignment within broader geoscience workflows
  • Ensure accurate and effective structural models are developed for the appropriate metallogenic setting

Qualifications

 

  • MSc or PhD degree with a focus on Structural Geology required
  • Professional registration with EGBC or eligible for professional registration
  • Minimum of 6 years industry experience including operational and/or exploration experience
  • Extensive geological and structural field and/or mine mapping experience in a variety of geologically-complex, polyphase deformed environments
  • Considerable technical knowledge and experience in Porphyry Cu- (Au, Mo) and/or Sediment-hosted massive sulphide systems is preferred
  • Proficiency with validation, analysis, integration and modelling of integrated geoscience datasets
  • Proficient with 3D modelling software packages; experience in Leapfrog Geo an asset
  • Familiarity with geotechnical engineering principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations to assist senior management in decision-making
  • Motivated self-starter who can thrive as an individual contributor and collaborate in team settings
  • Leadership competencies including the ability to empower and encourage others, to share ownership and responsibility for positive project outcomes, and to work effectively in collaborative, interdisciplinary teams.
  • Committed to robust and proactive health and safety standards in the workplace
  • Spanish language skills will be considered an advantage

 

Pay Range: CAD $119,000 - $147,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
