Teck is looking for a multifaceted and highly motivated Senior Lead, Field Operations to be responsible for and support the planning and execution of Exploration field programs across Canada and the USA. Reporting to the Principal Geologist, the Senior Lead, Field Operations is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective planning, operational leadership, and in-field support on a variety of greenfield and brownfield exploration-stage projects in the region.
The position is based in Vancouver, Canada with significant travel to Teck project and warehouse sites throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

Be a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive culture of safety, social responsibility and sustainability. Ensure safe field operations and, at all times, hold the health and safety of employees, contractors, consultants and communities as our highest priority

Provide leadership and support to project teams for accurate, efficient, and cost-effective planning of geophysical surveys (e.g., ground magnetics, gravity, reconnaissance IP, borehole surveys including acoustic televiewer), geochemical/ geological sampling programs, and diamond drill programs based out of remote camps, mine operations, and towns

Support the safe and efficient field operation of exploration programs ranging from sophisticated, multi-faceted camp-based field programs supported by both fixed wing aircraft and/or helicopters, multiple helicopter-portable and/or road-based diamond drill programs, to relatively simple geoscience programs involving combinations of geological, geochemical, and geophysical surveys

Manage and maintain field equipment such as in-house geophysical equipment, safety supplies, communication devices, field samples, camp supplies, and vehicles

Strategically manage warehouse locations and contents to support evolving Teck and Exploration needs
Qualifications:
-
10 or more years of progressively senior-level experience in field operations and/or project management in the resource industry. Specific experience with field operations for mineral exploration drill programs in remote camp-based helicopter accessible environments would be preferred. Field experience conducting ground geophysical surveys (i.e., magnetics, gravity, IP/resistivity, etc) would be an asset. Construction related experience (e.g., exploration road or drill pad building) would be an asset

Superior interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills

Proven ability to work effectively in a complex and dynamic environment, both independently and with a diverse multidisciplinary team, building and strengthening relationships within the team, and with contractors, consultants, service providers, regulators, Indigenous Peoples, and COIs

Electrical and mechanical knowledge and maintenance skills for a variety of equipment and vehicles typically used in mineral exploration would be an asset

Valid First Aid training and/or Wilderness First Aid training is required. Ability to deliver off-road vehicle training would be an asset. Valid firearm license preferred

Capable and excited to spend full days in the field in all weather conditions, traversing long distances while carrying heavy (>30 lbs.) backpacks over variable terrain

Ability to travel as required and work in the USA

Salary Range: $115,000 - 140,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
