Role Overview

 

Reporting to the Manager, Environment and Regulatory Strategy, the Senior Lead, Environmental Compliance will be responsible for ensuring environmental compliance and implementing a variety of environmental management systems for the stewardship of numerous closed mine sites across Teck’s Legacy Properties in Canada.

 

The successful candidate will be a dynamic, experienced environment professional with strong technical skills, proven leadership skills, demonstrated abilities to meaningfully contribute to hard-working multidisciplinary teams, and a record of safe and successful project execution.

 

This position can be based out of Kimberley or Vancouver BC with travel across Canada as required.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety, environmental and social rules and procedures
  • Supervise and mentor Environment Leads, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and inclusive work environment.
  • Identify environmental compliance obligations, determine and implement actions, monitor compliance, and conduct timely and accurate reporting to regulators.
  • Track performance against compliance obligations, evaluate and report the effectiveness of monitoring and management plans.
  • Respond to environmental non-compliances, lead investigations, and drive continuous improvement through follow-up actions.
  • Review and interpret monitoring data, identify and evaluate potential issues, and develop, assess, and implement effective control measures to address identified concerns.
  • Oversee ongoing environmental data collection initiatives and lead internal systems for accurate and efficient data handling.
  • Support environmental aspects of emergency response planning and execution.
  • Develop and implement environmental procedures, management plans (e.g., waste and materials, sediment and erosion, spill prevention and response plans) and standard operating procedures in alignment with Teck and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with site teams to develop or improve controls that address environment compliance obligations and risks
  • Provide oversight, maintenance and continuous improvement of Teck’s Environmental Management System (SiteLine) for tracking compliance obligations.
  • Participate in internal environmental assurance audit programs and support site teams in continuous improvement through follow-up actions.
  • Develop and manage budgets, schedules, and consultant contracts related to compliance monitoring and environmental studies.

Qualifications

 

  • Degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Geochemistry or environmental-related field. A post-graduate degree is an asset.
  • Professional accreditation in BC, such as RPBio, P.Ag., P.Geo., or immediate eligibility to attain, is a requirement.
  • Minimum ten years’ experience in environmental management compliance, environmental monitoring and data evaluation, or related roles
  • Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance and data management.
  • Strong decision-making abilities with a proven capacity for practical problem solving.
  • Technical knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and effective industry practices is an asset.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills.

 

Pay Range: CAD $122,000 - $150,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
