Teck is looking for a highly motivated, collaborative, and commercially adept Senior Geologist to assemble new, high-quality projects in Canada and the USA by identifying, evaluating and actioning third-party acquisition and investment opportunities. The role will work closely with HSEC, land/regulatory, and geoscience subject matter authorities and project generation geoscientists to upgrade Teck’s discovery portfolio in the region. This role will report to the Principal Geologist, Evaluations with a matrix reporting line to the Director, Global Evaluations, and is based in Vancouver, Canada.
We are seeking a dynamic, results oriented exploration professional with strong technical skills in ore deposit geology, mineral systems thinking, and exploration targeting spanning copper porphyry, sediment-hosted zinc, and magmatic nickel sulfide systems. This professional will have a compelling track record of project generation and acquisition, with a proven ability to assess and integrate third party and pre-competitive technical and commercial datasets, coordinate assets, evaluate risk, make conclusive recommendations, and build actionable exploration plans.
Responsibilities:

Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures

Identify, evaluate, and drive acquisition, where appropriate, of third-party copper, zinc and nickel opportunities at all stages of the exploration value chain throughout North America by maximising professional network, industry events, third party submittals and project generation activities

Compile, integrate, interpret, and critically assess geoscience and commercial information to make acquisition recommendations to the Exploration management team

Collaborate with the Director – Global Evaluations, Regional Chief Geoscientist – Americas and Canada/USA geoscience teams to align project generation and identification of opportunities

Maintain a broad multinational network of industry, government, and academic contacts to gain commercial and technical intelligence to assist in the timely capture of new opportunities

Stay abreast of technical research into relevant geoscience and ore deposit studies and integrate key findings into project appraisals

Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and communication across all constituents and partners

Contribute to internal team technical and professional development via formal and informal communication, training, and knowledge sharing

Promote the company’s dedication to health and safety, sustainability, the environment, and ensure Teck’s standards are met in the region
Qualifications:

A minimum of 12 years of geoscience experience, specifically with porphyry copper, sediment-hosted zinc, and magmatic nickel sulfide systems in North America

A Bachelor's degree in Geoscience or a related field is required. A relevant, advanced degree (MSc or PhD) is preferred

Proven track record of early- to development-stage project evaluations and generation, including excellent understanding of asset evaluation, economic modeling, and commercial concepts

Strong understanding of business priorities, ability to visualize and communicate future opportunities, and identify and handle risks

Demonstrated experience with effectively leading, collaborating with, and driving improvements in multidisciplinary teams

Results oriented with excellent organizational, planning, prioritization and problem solving skills

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including highly developed facilitation skills

Strong interpersonal skills and experience engaging with a broad range of people

Ability to travel as required and work in the USA

Salary Range: $130,000 - $160,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
