Senior Geologist, Advanced Projects

Reporting to the Director of Advanced Projects, the Senior Geologist, Advanced Projects is part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides geoscience guidance and support to Teck’s advanced projects and base metal and coal mining operations. Key Responsibilities are to ensure geoscience programs are developed and executed at each site/project with the appropriate technical consideration for creating, enhancing and sustaining value to the site and company over the short, mid and long term.  The successful candidate will be a recognized geoscience leader who combines the highest technical standards, with a strong work ethic and mentorship skills to foster geoscience integration across technical disciplines at Teck’s brownfield and advanced project sites. 


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Perform in-depth analysis and advanced 3D modeling of multi-disciplinary data sets to support resource/reserve estimation, resource expansion, geotechnical and geometallurgical initiatives at Teck’s advanced projects and mining operations.
  • Provide technical support and coordination of resources to achieve leading practice geoscience data acquisition, validation, analysis and modeling.
  • Ensure that the geology and resource potential of specific projects is well understood through the integration, analysis and interpretation of geoscience data and the creation of geological models to inform decision making.
  • Identify and apply practical geoscience solutions to increase operational effectiveness and foresee development project challenges/opportunities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to Teck projects through conducting regular site visits and interacting with key project stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with geoscience, resource/reserve estimation and engineering professionals to support resource expansion initiatives.
  • Provide technical input and support to the project teams during the design of major exploration programs as required.
  • Work with Teck’s Operations, Business Units, Exploration and Corporate Development groups to identify and unlock technical opportunities at Teck’s operations and advanced projects. This includes, but is not limited to, participation in commercial opportunity evaluations and working with corporate technology groups.


  • BSc degree in Geology or a related Geoscience field required, with MSc or PhD degree preferred.
  • Eligibility for professional designation in British Columbia.
  • A minimum of 12 years of industry experience including advanced project and/or mine geology experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience working in Porphyry Cu-Au deposit types would be an asset as would experience from of one or more ore deposit styles:  Sediment-hosted massive sulphide, Skarn, Carbonate-hosted Pb-Zn and/or Coal deposits.
  • Advanced knowledge and specialist experience in one or more of the following geoscience sub-disciplines will be considered as an advantage: Structural Geology, Geotechnical, Geometallurgy, Geochemistry, Spectral Geology, 3D Geological Modelling, Resource/Reserve estimation, and QA/QC.
  • Experience in the analysis, interpretation, integration and modelling of large, integrated geoscience datasets.
  • Proficient in the use of one or more specialist software packages such as Leapfrog, GOCAD, IoGas, Minesight, or Vulcan.
  • Exposure to project and mine engineering principles, metallurgical and processing techniques, environmental and material stewardship issues, project evaluation and/or commercial assessments.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills and an ability to prepare technical reports and presentations to assist senior management in decision-making. Spanish language skills will be considered as an advantage.
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to motivate and inspire others, to share ownership and responsibility for project outcomes, and to work effectively in collaborative, interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
