Reporting to the Manager, Finance Business Partner (FBP), the Senior Financial Analyst is a crucial team member of the FBP team. This outstanding team partners and supports head office functions (such as Human Resources, Finance, Legal, Sustainability and etc) to drive value creation through standardizing performance reporting and forward-looking insights and analysis. This includes optimizing financial budgeting, forecasting and analysis to deliver value for Teck.
This role is part of Teck’s Finance team and will work closely with other Finance areas such as Treasury, Tax, Accounting, Assurance & Advisory, and Financial Planning and Analysis. In addition, this role will be embedded into the leadership teams of head office functions.

Responsibilities

Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures

Support the 5-Year Plan, and Annual Budget processes including maintaining standards and templates, supporting consolidation of inputs and preparing analysis and insights to support decisions made by senior management

Work with senior management in developing cost forecasts that are accurate and timely

Prepare monthly cost analysis comparing and explaining against actuals, budget and forecasts

Prepare presentations and information packages to assist senior management in decision-making

Provide other supporting analysis to management regarding expected financial performance and sensitivity to changes in key profit drivers.

Support and perform finance reviews and endorsements of Appropriation Requests for capital projects.

Continuously develop a comprehensive understanding of company operations and key development projects, as well as commodities and metals mining industry more generally

Focus on continuous improvement on all FBP processes, tools, reports and products
Qualifications

A Degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics or a related field

Professional designation related to finance (e.g. Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Professional Accountant), or Master of Business Administration (MBA)

3-7 years of relevant work experience or in a role with transferrable skills which would ideally include previous mining industry experience

Significant ability to develop and interpret financial models with a strong understanding of business drivers and relevant outputs required to promote decision making. Experience with probability-based decision making an asset

Expert at capturing and synthesizing inputs, framing opportunities and leading decision-making conversations from a fact-based position

High degree of critical thinking and analytical skills. A proficiency to apply economic, accounting, financial and investment principles to solving corporate business problems

Prioritize relationship-building and adept at working with personnel at all levels of seniority from other functional areas across the company and external organizations

Self-starter who can prioritize amongst multiple projects at once and work with limited guidance. Able to work in a highly ambiguous environment with agility

Well-developed written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and presentation skills

Salary Range: $105,000 - $130,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
