Senior Analyst

Location: 

Vancouver, BC, CA

Reporting to the Manager, Planning & Analysis (Energy), the Senior Analyst provides support for researching, interpreting, and analyzing market and business unit financial data and trends; assistance with developing perspectives on future performance in various scenarios; supporting the business unit and corporate budget/forecasting function; providing general ad-hoc financial support to the business unit and corporate functions relating to budgets, plans, forecasts and other related matters.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Be a courageous safety leady by promoting the safety culture across the organization
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the Energy business unit to understand and analyze financial performance
  • Work collaboratively with Operations and Technical team to facilitate decision support, business analysis and financial planning, including budgeting and forecasting
  • Provide support for coordinating, preparing, and maintaining the business plan, including the monthly forecast, annual budget, 5 Year Plan and Life of Mine Plan
  • Develop, update and maintain financial models used for financial analysis
  • Assist in conducting complex financial analysis, including scenario analysis
  • Help with benchmarking to assess financial performance against industry peers
  • Provide support with developing presentations for Teck Energy’s business plan
  • Assist other functions (Treasury, Corporate Development, Technical Accounting) at Teck pertaining to Energy business unit matters
  • Provide support for ad hoc requests, as may be required in a dynamic environment
  • Manage multiple initiatives and timelines simultaneously

 

Qualifications:

 

  • A professional accounting or finance designation (CPA, CFA, or other similar designations)
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance 
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles generally accepted in Canada (GAAP/IFRS)
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly spreadsheet, PowerPoint, word processing and ERP software
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills and able to effectively communicate in a professional manner with staff and management
  • Proven ability to prioritize, work under pressure with minimal guidance and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical, research, problem solving and evaluative thinking skills
  • Acute attention to detail and well developed organization and time management skills 
  • Strong work ethic; self-starter with the ability to develop, mentor and grow employees
  • Oil sands and/or mining industry experience is an asset
