Senior Analyst, Technical Accounting and Reporting

We are currently seeking an individual in the role of:

 

Senior Analyst, Technical Accounting and Reporting

Vancouver, British Columbia

The Senior Analyst, Technical Accounting and Reporting reports to the Manager, Technical Accounting and Reporting and is responsible for monitoring, analyzing and implementing new and amended IFRS pronouncements and analyzing highly complex accounting issues and transactions and preparing technical accounting position papers. The Senior Analyst is responsible for assisting in preparing quarterly and annual external consolidated financial statements and disclosures. The Senior Analyst will also assist with ad hoc projects related to financial reporting as they arise.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Monitor, analyze and implement new and amended IFRS pronouncements including communication with head office and operations accounting personnel, preparation of technical papers and policies, calculation of transitional effects and training of operations and head office personnel.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual external consolidated financial statements and disclosures in accordance with IFRS and approved corporate accounting policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of recommendations and reports to senior management on accounting treatments for new and complex transactions which would affect both internal and external financial statements. 
  • Analyze highly complex accounting issues and transactions and prepare technical accounting position papers over areas including financial instruments, pension accounting, impairment, investments, acquisitions, dispositions and other contracts and transactions.
  • Assist in advising relevant stakeholders on the financial impact of potential transactions and arrangements prior to the finalization.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of corporate wide accounting policies and ensure consistent application across the company.
  • Prepare journal entries for various complex accounting areas such as borrowing costs, pensions and provisions.
  • Interact and communicate with various levels of management, other departments and operations.
  • Liaise with and provide support to external auditors during quarterly reviews, year-end audits, implementation of new standards, and other times as required.
  • Assist with SOX compliance for the technical accounting group by maintaining a system of controls for the technical accounting group’s responsibilities, communicating with Internal Audit and external audit to ensure SOX compliance and identifying any SOX impacts as a result of significant transactions or new accounting policies. Ensure that related SOX documentation is updated accordingly.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects related to financial reporting as they arise.
  • Understand how to set goals and prioritize tasks in order to achieve business results.

 

Qualifications:

  • 4 to 5 years of experience
  • CPA, CA designation required
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of IFRS is required
  • Experience in the mining industry preferred
  • Strong understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley legislation and internal controls
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to multi-task and take initiative
  • Ability to think critically and troubleshoot problems as they arise
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills
  • Advanced skills in using MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System (HFM)  an asset
