Role Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Administrative Accounting, the Senior Administrative Accountant will play a key role within the Vancouver Administrative Accounting team, providing financial oversight and analytical support across various business functions. This role includes functional oversight of selected accounting personnel and close collaboration with other departments including Tax, Legal, Payroll, Treasury and various sites contacts.

 

The incumbent will be responsible for a broad range of accounting and financial activities, including project analysis, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, internal control compliance, internal management reporting, financial statement note preparation, government filings, and oversight of the rebilling function. The role requires strong analytical skills, sound accounting judgment, and a proactive approach to process improvement.

 

Success in this role requires critical thinking, strong analytical ability, clear communication, and keen attention to detail, along with the ability to develop solutions, resolve issues, and facilitate discussions that drive team alignment and informed decision-making.

 

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Manage intercompany billing processes, monitor accounts receivable balances, and respond to queries from various departments and customers (mainly other Teck operations)
  • Review and analyze project requests to determine the appropriate accounting treatment in compliance with relevant accounting standards
  • Prepare monthly schedule for the financial booklet distributed to senior management for analysis and review
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of assigned balance sheet accounts including Intercompany Payables/Receivables, Fixed Assets, Accruals, Payroll, and Leases
  • Liaise with Payroll to perform reconciliation to ensure accuracy and completeness of payroll related accounts.
  • Review monthly reconciliations prepared by team members
  • Review the trial balances of two subsidiaries, ensure proper consolidation of the data, and ensure intercompany payable/receivable balances eliminate
  • Maintain fixed asset register and review monthly depreciation entries
  • Maintain a lease register and prepare lease related journal entries in accordance with IFRS16
  • Align with SOX procedures and controls in addition to liaising with internal and external auditors
  • Coordinate to provide supporting documentation for annual corporate tax filings, tax audits, and statutory government filings
  • Implement process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency of internal controls and the financial close process
  • Provide backup support for reviewing WorkSafe British Columbia and tax returns such as GST/HST, PST, QST, and non-resident tax
  • Assist in the preparation of aspects of the annual budget
  • Assist with any ad-hoc analysis or projects
 

Qualifications

  • CPA designation
  • 3 to 5 years of post-qualification experience working for a large company in the accounting department (preferably as part of the corporate accounting function)
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experienced with financial reporting and management reporting
  • Strong attention to detail and outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills, with expert spreadsheet experience
  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and deliver on tight deadlines
  • Ability to efficiently use software tools and applications to support role
  • Ability to delegate effectively; recognizing where additional resources and/or technical assistance may be required
  • Ability to work with other departments and understand complex business transactions, provide recommendations and communicate accounting conclusions effectively
  • Ability to work independently and inventively with minimal direction
 

 

Pay Range: CAD $93,000 - $115,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
