Role Overview
Reporting to the Director, Asset Management, the Principal Advisor, Asset Management is a critical member of Teck’s central, enterprise-based Asset Management function, with a primary focus on Fixed Asset (Fixed Plant) performance and maintenance. The Principal Advisor serves as a trusted business partner to global operations, combining deep technical maintenance expertise with a hands-on, outcomes-oriented approach.
The role is accountable for identifying maintenance performance gaps and supporting site leaders and teams through coaching and direct engagement, working alongside operations to actively lead and support the implementation of practical solutions that unlock and sustain site value.
This position requires extensive industrial maintenance experience and the ability to translate best practices into pragmatic, site-level improvements across fixed plant operations. The initial focus will be on supporting Teck’s global operations, with a shift toward greater emphasis on North American operations over time, aligned with evolving business priorities.

Key Responsibilities
- Be a role model in safety, adhering to and promoting safety and environmental rules and procedures and fostering a culture of safety and compliance.
- Support value creation through measurable improvements in maintenance performance at Teck’s operating sites, focused on production equipment in the Fixed Plant.
- Collaborate with site Maintenance Execution and Asset Management leadership to identify opportunities for unlocking site value through improved maintenance of Teck’s physical assets; primarily through improvements in maintenance efficiency and contribution to enhanced maintenance effectiveness via strategies and planning.
- Leverage deep experience in industrial maintenance and knowledge of process and best practice, work with site leadership and Improvement teams to develop measurement and assessment plans to uncover potential causes of maintenance value loss.
- Leverage Teck’s site operating standard to evaluate site maintenance processes and ways of working, and enhance and deploy standards where required.
- Prioritize opportunities for maintenance performance improvement, focusing on the critical few that drive improvement in health and safety, value generation, and the management of risk. Support site leadership to assign resources to priority initiatives, and work with the teams to define objectives, success metrics, and improvement plans.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and support training for site maintenance leaders, while also working directly with front-line teams during critical improvement initiatives, outages, or transitions.
- Initiate and support working groups or communities of practice focused on improvement in maintenance execution, bringing together stakeholders from across Teck’s operations.
- Provide subject matter expertise to Teck’s major projects and operational readiness teams, focused on maintenance strategy, staffing, infrastructure, and work process.
- Support the development and review of site mid-range and annual maintenance plans and budgets.
- Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and performance benchmarks in maintenance through purposeful participation in industry forums, working groups, and events.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent, or a trade certificate and experience at the journeyperson level.
- Strong coaching skills and the ability to lead by influence, combined with the humility and willingness to work alongside site teams to translate recommendations into practical, executable improvements.
- 15+ years of experience in industrial plant maintenance, preferably in the mining, smelting, oil and gas, or chemical sectors
- 10+ years of experience in maintenance leadership, with progression to senior maintenance leadership roles.
- Demonstrated success in leading a large and complex maintenance organization through change and to a sustained higher level of performance.
- A thorough understanding of industry standards and processes for industrial maintenance, including maintenance strategy, planning and scheduling, execution, and quality management.
- Experience with large plant outages and turnarounds and knowledge of maintenance excellence value drivers is required.
- Effective communication skills, written and oral, with an ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of maintenance personnel; from corporate to the shop floor.
- Conversational capability in Spanish would be an asset.
- Professional or industry accreditation, such as P.Eng., CMRP, etc. may be considered an asset.
- Candidates must be able to meet the travel requirements of the role, which include 25–40% international travel to Teck’s operating sites, particularly within Canada, the United States, Chile, and Peru, including work at remote and high-altitude locations
Pay Range: CAD $150,000 - $185,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
