For this exciting position, we are targeting students with a background in Engineering or Computer Science, along with previous coding and business analysis experience. Reporting to the Supervisor of Engineering Systems, this opportunity offers practical experience supporting and enhancing digital tools and software that enable mine planning and engineering—covering drill and blast, reserves and resources management, and geotechnical systems. This role not only allows you to work closely with industry professionals but also provides exposure to new technologies and real-world projects.
You will have opportunities for both technical and non-technical work, vendor engagement, delivery and sustainment, process improvement, project management, and innovation. This position offers a nice mix of business analysis and technical problem-Solving.
If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhering to and sponsoring safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Plan and implement updates to existing systems and assist in delivering new solutions in the engineering systems space—including Drill and Blast, Geology, and Geotechnical systems— through activities such as system updates, enhancements, and occasional development work
- Support engagement and sustainment activities for systems (including incident, problem, defect, and improvement management)
- Coordinate efforts to deliver resources with other teams and groups within the Digital Operations, Technology, and Innovation department
- Test, analyze, and provide quality assurance for software solutions in place for mining engineering
- Contribute to software design and testing activities, with opportunities to assist in development tasks such as unit and integration testing
- Build systems specifications documents as well as external systems design documentation
- Provide timely application support and vendor engagement to ensure resolution of support-related issues when required
- Elicit detailed functional and non-functional requirements as well as process optimization activities to ensure business needs and requirements are captured
- Assist with estimates for software development and testing, and support small to medium-sized software implementations
- Gain exposure to modern software practices and tools, with opportunities to contribute to system improvements, integrations and technical activities as needed
Qualifications
- Preference will be given to students with diverse educational backgrounds, including an undergraduate bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or Applied Sciences
- Programming experience in C# (.NET) is required; Python experience is an asset
- Experience working with .NET technologies is required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong Understanding of SQL, data modeling, and experience with tools like SQL Server, SSRS, and Power BI is highly valued
- Exposure to MS Azure DevOps or similar tools is an asset
- Previous experience in System/Business analysis is preferred
- Proficiency in the Spanish language is an asset
- Previous experience in SCCM, ServiceNow, and software package creation and deployment would be an asset but not required
- Curiosity to learn more about the mining industry and Mining Engineering systems technical analysis
- Ability to work efficiently independently as well as part of a team
- Confirmed ability to learn new technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently, and proven experience in requirements analysis and specification
- Self-directed and motivated by sophisticated technical and business challenges, with the ability to manage several projects and work schedules simultaneously
- A strong “make it happen,” positive, adaptable, and constructive mature work ethic
- Understanding of analytics, quality assurance, and system implementation processes
- Open pit mining experience and/or a geology background would also be an asset
- Ability to articulate sophisticated concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand
Pay Range: CAD $4,000 - $5,100 per month
