Manager, IsoMetrix Deployment

Reporting to the Director, RBS, the Manager, IsoMetrix Deployment is accountable for driving and supporting user adoption of IsoMetrix by providing leadership and subject-matter expertise to internal partners / users of the Health and Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) software transformation process currently underway within Teck. This role involves the application of subject-matter knowledge and experience to the deployment and implementation of the IsoMetrix platform to support current and future business requirements as a means for Teck to improve management of operational HSEC risks and our HSEC compliance record.


A key accountability of the role is to merge a sophisticated level of understanding of both the IsoMetrix platform and of Teck HSEC business processes and management systems in driving use of IsoMetrix to help personnel at sites and offices to fulfill the HSEC requirements of their jobs. This requires ongoing engagement and collaboration with site and corporate leadership and HSEC subject area specialists within Teck, including personnel at operations and within business units, as well as with functional area leadership at a corporate level. This individual must have thorough and current understanding of management systems and Teck’s associated requirements and practices pertaining to HSEC discipline(s), a solid understanding of the relevant HSEC software tools, and familiarity with the management of software projects and consultants.


The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial thinker and a pragmatic problem solver who will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to lead the deployment and implementation of IsoMetrix software in a way that contributes to the business, satisfies ongoing and future requirements across HSEC disciplines, and helps end users to do their jobs. They are skilled practitioners in their own respective discipline(s), with extensive practical and hands-on experience at an operational level and have a solid understanding of supporting software tools and technologies. Although skilled in one or more HSEC disciplines, they also bring a perspective that enables them to identify and work multi-functionally towards common solutions across disciplines. They have experience working within a schedule-driven project environment.


They must apply precise technical, interpersonal, communication and organizational change management skills to lead and support the implementation and use of the IsoMetrix platform to support strengthened HSEC management practices and enhanced HSEC performance. They must act as a change agent to foster a positive transformation in how Teck conducts its business, with improved management systems and toolsets (i.e. IsoMetrix) ultimately aiming for an enhanced level of operational excellence. Positive partnerships with RBS and IsoMetrix project teams, and a positive relationship with the VPs of Health & Safety, Environment, Community and Government Relations, along with operations and functional teams is vital to success in the role. 


The position is global in scope covering all geographic areas in which Teck is active, within and across all Business Units. The Manager, IsoMetrix Deployment will work closely with Teck personnel at Corporate, Functional and Operational Levels. They will provide a base of support and expertise, serving as a liaison between different levels, functions, and disciplines within Teck on common approaches, practices and application of IsoMetrix to support improved overall HSEC performance.


The incumbent leads the work of contractors within RBS and may handle portions of work done by individuals from Teck as required for specific components of the transformation. They will interact across all levels of the organization including senior management and executive levels.


Lead IsoMetrix deployment activities: 

  • Facilitate and guide deployment activities at operating and non-operating sites and workshops with prospective users. 
  • Communicate capabilities and limitations of functionalities within the IsoMetrix platform to guide prospective users
  • Work with other members of the IsoMetrix project team to coordinate technical aspects of the IsoMetrix platform vital for site deployment and scheduling and resourcing matters vital to support simultaneous multi-site deployment efforts.


Support organizational change management and user adoption: 

  • Assist with training or preparation of training, communication and/or business process materials where applicable
  • Provide hands-on support, guidance and mentorship for users, especially in the early phases of user adoption
  • Receive and relay in a timely fashion any reported defects or enhancement requests via the designated channels in order to support user adoption and to improve the platform.


Work in a collaborative and integrated fashion with domain specialists representing other disciplines: 

  • Supplement their own domain expertise with a broader perspective considering the needs of other disciplines, and seek out commonalities and pursue integration opportunities between those disciplines on which to anchor system design, development and implementation.


Represent HSEC on behalf of the IsoMetrix and RBS project teams:

  • Bring significant operational experience and credibility from within the HSEC discipline(s) they represent, working with the project team and other subject area leaders in resolving functional and content issues
  • Be a main point of reference for advice and feedback, including participation or delivery of communication and presentation materials for Teck audiences.


Act as an IsoMetrix content-expert within the field:

  • Serve as a bridge between the software vendor(s) and end users, understanding and representing user interests while simultaneously recognizing the constraints of the vendor’s offerings
  • Participate as needed in testing and validation of system design and configuration to support the discipline-specific requirements as well as the user uptake and utilization of the system.


Support the implementation of HSEC Standards:

  • Support planning for organizational process change activities regarding HSEC Standards implementation and the implementation pathway
  • Engage with internal partners and support site facilitated self-assessments
  • Assist site-based and other corporate SMEs involved in implementation efforts in the development of continual improvement plans for sites, as well as reporting on progress of implementation and continual improvement efforts.


  • 10+ years of demonstrated ability or equivalent in Health and Safety, Environment and Community with a consistent track record within the mining industry
  • Familiarity with standard methodologies in Management System Standards (e.g. ISO), risk management, sustainability practices, regulatory requirements in key jurisdictions and HSEC-related technology developments
  • Considerable digital literacy and knowledge of electronic data applications, databases and digital technologies
  • Experience with the use of instruments or technologies for collecting, managing, analyzing and evaluating HSEC-related data is considered an asset
  • Travel to various Teck operating and project locations at approximately 50% of time including those at high altitude elevations
  • Good interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral
  • Verified strategic problem solver, with an ability to balance creative thinking with a pragmatic view of what will work in practice
  • Familiar with organizational change management principles and practices
  • Proficient coaching skills
  • Process focused and results oriented
  • Spanish language skills would be an asset
