Role Overview

Reporting to the Lead, Land Logistics, North America, the Logistics Coordinator ensures that all transportation and service requirements for Teck’s inbound and outbound products and raw materials are established and kept current, continuously monitored and performed, and consistent with industry standards, company and customer needs.

 

With an open-concept style workspace, this role requires periodic visits to industrial sites and stakeholder offices in North America, along with normal physical effort. Ensuring reliable and uninterrupted flow of products and raw materials to customers and/or Teck sites may require after hours and weekend work and a continuous awareness of the status of shipments and carrier capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Ensure familiarity with the principal modes (rail, truck, ocean - bulk and containers), Teck operations and assets and regulations and practices pertinent to each, including knowledge of hazardous regulations
  • Develop and negotiate rates with pertinent modes for Trail Operations’ Refined Metals, Ferrous Granules, Specialty Metals, and inbound raw materials in order to minimize cost and ensure customer and regulatory compliance
  • Coordinate rate and service contracts for the above requirements as required
  • Supervise and monitor equipment supply requirements for Trail Operations’ product movements, ensuring that capacity is available and in balanced position
  • Identify and resolve railcar and truck service issues and communicate status in timely manner to stakeholders
  • Management of Ferrous Granules inventory and railcar fleet 
  • Support Trail Operations railcar demurrage through effective proactive monitoring of rail supply performance
  • Truck carrier vetting and approvals
  • Coordination of concentrate trucking and Refined Metals ex warehouse trucking for Trail Operations
  • Provide input for Base Metals Logistics KPIs and scorecards of key service providers, for use by internal customer groups and communicate KPIs at weekly internal and external operations meetings
  • Ensure North American logistics cost and route information is updated and accurate in SAP including vendor management
  • Support Accounts Payable with logistics invoice verification, as required
  • Provide back-up capability to Lead, Land Logistics, North America, and Logistics Analyst in their absence
  • As required, prepare cost estimates and forecasts for use in preparation of financial and operational plans
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and achieve site and corporate objectives including during monthly, quarterly and year-end periods
  • As required, contribute to railcar leasing and management efforts
  • Project work as assigned
  • Promote and ensure proper health and safety within areas of responsibility

Qualifications

 

  • Post-secondary education in Transportation & Logistics management or equivalent
  • 5+ years of related logistics experience in rail, truck and ocean transportation
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification (offering for transport)
  • Capability and familiarity with SAP and Geometrix (rail fleet management software) as required for data entry and retrieval and report generation
  • Solid understanding of bulk and Refined Metals products and related transportation requirements, modes, and regulations applicable in North America
  • Effective analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with handling and completing multiple concurrent and time-sensitive tasks
  • Ability to lead without authority on issues related to responsibility and expertise
  • Strong digital literacy including MS Office / M365 (Excel, Word and Powerpoint), and database management skills
  • Solid level of product, business and transportation industry knowledge
  • Basic customs knowledge and understanding

 

Pay Range: CAD $83,000 - $115,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
