Reporting to the Director, Engineering the Lead Engineer will have expertise and proficiencies in the area of civil engineering, including earthworks and mine site civil infrastructure. This motivated individual will be accountable to lead the delivery of the assigned civil technical scope of work across multiple studies, projects, or packages. Other specific technical tasks may be assigned by Project Managers, Engineering Managers, and/or Project Directors, as the need arises.


A key focus of this role is to reduce risks and find opportunities to build value in the engineering scope of the assigned study, project or package.


This role will be based in Vancouver originally, but will relocate to the mine site near Kamloops during construction.


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Apply civil engineering expertise to support the development of the Scope of Work (SOW) for assigned projects within the department
  • Lead the development of a review process for technical documents as the need arises and coordinate review and return to the consultant in a timely manner
  • Serves as a liaison between the engineering contractor and the project team in the area of accountability and may have accountability to monitor and manage the scope, cost, schedule and quality of engineering contractor results
  • Coordinate with Teck’s Engineering Manager to ensure the requirements of the following subject areas are understood and adequately addressed in engineering design: Health & Safety, Sustainability, Risk Management, Technology & Digital Systems, Social, Environmental, Regulatory and Permitting, and Value Improvement Practices
  •  Ensuring the engineering compliance to the Design Basis
  • Developing Technical Decision Memorandums outlining rationale and justification for key decisions
  • Direct interaction with consultants and contractors within the scope of responsibility on matters related to the technical area of expertise
  • May support the development of estimates and participate in and manage trade-off studies and economic evaluations


  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field related to the technical expertise required of this position is required
  • Minimum of 10 years of technical stewardship of project work scopes for the resource industry
  • Professional registration in good standing with EGBC, if applicable
  • Engineering experience on major infrastructure, mining and/or process plant projects
  • Technical proficiency within the required area(s) of specialty
  • Training and experience in project management systems and an understanding of multiple phases of project execution
  • Previous construction and field experience is preferred
  • Project experience as an owner's team representative or as an EPCM contractor, with the basic understanding of project controls, scope management, and quality management
  • Demonstrated understanding of concepts of "fit for purpose" and "value engineering"
  • Able to prioritize activities and outcomes to support the achievement of project key performance indicators
  • Strong critical and conceptual thinking skills and knowledge of overall project implementation management processes
  • Able to work collaboratively in diversified teams and coordinate work efforts of different groups (including consultants)
  • Motivated self-starter, able to work under minimal supervision and be able to manage several tasks simultaneously
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication 
  • Experience creating and making technical presentations and proven capabilities in writing reports
  • Excellent organizational, planning and decision-making skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PPTX and Outlook

​Salary Range: $132,000 - $163,000


The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
