Role Overview

 

Reporting to the Server Team Lead, the Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and support of enterprise server infrastructure across both on-premises and cloud environments. This outstanding opportunity allows you to work on ambitious projects within a world-class team at Teck Resources Limited!

 

This role focuses on ensuring a  secure, reliable, and consistently available platform supporting essential business operations, while aiding modernization efforts in virtualization, automation, and hybrid cloud settings. Your work will be crucial in ensuring flawless operations and outstanding service delivery.

 

You will work across a diverse environment that includes: Microsoft Active Directory and Windows/Linux server platforms and VMware vSphere / ESXi along with the VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) platform. Infrastructure based on Azure and hybrid connectivity

 

This is an initial one-year contract.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.

 

Server & OS Operations

 

  • Coordinate and assist with Windows Server and Linux systems in an enterprise Active Directory environment
  • Support domain services, including domain controllers, DNS, and authentication services

 

Perform system patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management 

 

  • Implement and manage patching schedules and procedures
  • Perform upgrades and ensure lifecycle management of server systems

 

VMware & Virtualization Platform

 

  • Operate and maintain VMware vSphere environments across multiple vCenters
  • Assist and take part in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) operations and lifecycle management

 

Handle ESXi hosts, clusters, storage, and networking arrangements

 

  • Arrange and maintain ESXi hosts, clusters, storage systems, and network parameters
  • Monitor performance, capacity, and availability across the virtual infrastructure

 

Participate in planning and execution of platform upgrades, including

 

  • VCF 9 modernization initiatives
  • Ensure seamless upgrade processes and minimal disruption

 

Automation & Platform Engineering

 

  • Participate in infrastructure automation through tools such as PowerShell, Ansible, or similar
  • Assist in improving repeatability, scalability, and operational efficiency

 

Support infrastructure-as-code and configuration management initiatives

 

  • Develop and maintain scripts and configurations for automated deployments
  • Support continuous integration and delivery pipelines

 

Monitoring, Reliability & Operations

 

  • Monitor system health, performance, and availability using enterprise monitoring tools
  • Assist in achieving service reliability goals (SLOs/SLIs) and promote continuous advancement efforts
  •  

Engage in incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause investigation

 

  • Respond to incidents swiftly to mitigate impact
  • Conduct detailed root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences

 

Security & Compliance

 

  • Maintain systems in alignment with enterprise security standards and policies
  • Collaborate with security and identity teams on access and hardening initiatives

 

Support vulnerability remediation and patch compliance efforts

 

  • Regularly review and remediate vulnerabilities
  • Ensure strict compliance with patch management policies

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure operations or systems administration
  • Windows Server and Active Directory settings
  • VMware vSphere and ESXi administration
  • Familiarity with patching, system lifecycle management, and operational support
  • Familiarity with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) or comparable consolidated platforms
  • Experience with Azure infrastructure and hybrid cloud setups
  • Experience with automation tools (PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, or similar)
  • Familiarity with enterprise monitoring platforms
  • Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments (multi-site, global operations)
