Positions Available: 1 

Start Date: January 5, 2026 

 

For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students pursuing their post-secondary education in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geology, Information Systems, or related field. This student will be reporting to Senior Geologists and the Analyst, Data & Information, will support GIS, data management and data analysis on Canada/USA Exploration projects as well as internal Geoscience initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess coding experience and demonstrate an enthusiastic curiosity towards the following areas: data engineering, data visualization, data analysis, cloud computing, mining technologies, geosciences, and mining exploration. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures 

 

Exploration Geoscience Support  

  • Provide historical database support by cleaning, digitizing, transforming and validating data 
  • Prioritize data security and quality to deliver and maintain integrity and confidentiality 
  • Perform quality assurance on generated results to carry out data integrity and ensure metadata and spatial data standards are maintained 
  • Analyze and interrogate historic data in 2D and 3D to deliver high-quality outputs for use in 3D models and Exploration Reports 
  • Assist in the interpretation of data to de-risk Exploration projects  
  • Contribute to the production of Exploration reports and presentations  
  • Provide support for technical resources and tools used by Field teams including equipment updates and maintenance 

 

GIS Support  

  • Support design and implementation of data management and integration workflows, queries and automation from multiple data sources including GIS, IoT sensors, maps, geologic sections, photos/videos, vector models, remote sensing data, satellite imagery, environmental and social baseline, virtual reality, documents and relevant administrative and commercial data etc. 
  • Provide technical support for end-users of GIS software, including production of technical instructional guides and manuals, delivering training material and documenting workflows as required 
  • Maintain data and required metadata on Teck’s ArcGIS Online system, respect standards and naming conventions 
  • Assist with production and maintenance of web maps and web applications 
  • Maintain spatial database health and address issues as they arise 

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a post-secondary degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geology, Information Systems, or related field 
  • Ability to communicate with precision in a technical environment 
  • Able to articulate sophisticated concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand 
  • Proficient in both independent work and collaboration, encouraging an inclusive and diverse environment 
  • Experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS Enterprise systems (e.g ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS online) is highly preferred 
  • Coding experience in at least one of the following is required: Python, SQL, Arcade, Matlab.  
  • Experience and proficiency with SQL databases is required (implementation, management, querying) 
  • Knowledge of other relevant GIS and 3D software (ioGAS, Leapfrog, Oasis Montaj, GoCAD, Krux, Imago, MX Deposit) is an asset 
  • Familiarity with data analytical and dashboarding programs, including Power BI and ArcGIS Insights 
  • Proven ability to learn new technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently.  
  • Experience with cloud platforms is an asset and a variety of technological backgrounds is valued 
  • Experience within the Power Platform, including PowerApps, PowerAutomate, O365 and SharePoint 

 

Pay Range: CAD $4,000 - $5,100

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
