Summary
Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Environment and Permitting, the Environment, Lead will be responsible for ensuring environmental compliance and implementing a variety of environmental management systems for the closed Sullivan mine in BC.
The successful candidate must possess a broad base of scientific knowledge, technical skills and environmental project management experience for analyzing and reporting environmental data, and developing and implementing environmental programs and projects. This role will support a variety of environmental activities required for the stewardship, closure and reclamation of the closed Sullivan Mine. We are specifically seeking for an individual with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and nurture positive relationships with individuals of a diverse set of backgrounds. The job location can be based in Vancouver, Kimberley, BC or Calgary, AB with some travel to site at Kimberley.
Responsibilities

Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety, environmental and social rules and procedures

Be an advocate for and promote an inclusive, respectful and equitable work environment

Provide day-to-day oversight in compliance management according to regulatory permits and environmental regulations for the Sullivan
-
Lead or participate in non-compliance investigations and implement follow-up and corrective actions and reporting

Manage external environmental consultants working on compliance monitoring, environmental assessments, biological and reclamation monitoring programs.

Manage laboratory and field data in the environmental database software EQuIS and environmental requirements in Teck’s Siteline system

Support the preparation of annual environmental and mine reclamation reports

Provide oversight and implementation of Teck’s Environmental Management Systems, including systems for waste, wildlife, vegetation, and water performance

Support water collection, monitoring, and treatment operations including field sampling activities and associated reporting

Complete infrastructure assessment and field mapping activities and supporting updates to Teck’s GIS databases

Provide mentorship and training in site procedures to new staff and technicians

Support the development and review of Environmental Protection Work Plans
Qualifications
-
Minimum of fice to seven years of professional experience in an environmental management, environmental assessment, or regulatory field

Engineering or Science degree/diploma in Forestry, Biology, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field

Project coordination and/or management experience
-
Field sampling experience including a variety of media (e.g., water, soil) and sampling methodologies (e.g., pumps, instrumentation)

Understanding and experience in environmental monitoring and best management practices in BC, experience with mining projects and industrial operations would be an asset

Experience with water management and treatment operations is an asset

Experience engaging with regulators and COIs is an asset

Excellent organizational and communication skills

Experience using databases and software packages including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point is required

Able to build and nurture positive working relationships
