Role Overview

Teck’s Projects provides leadership, guidance, expertise, and support to deliver projects at Teck. We partner with our Business Unit Owners to deliver Teck's major projects, carrying a project portfolio of studies, water program projects, capital infrastructure, and large development projects.

 

Reporting to the Teck Project Managers of assigned projects, the Document Control Specialist is responsible for implementing effective project information management and document control methods, procedures, and systems on all phases of the project. This role reports functionally to the Supervisor, Information and Document Management (IDM) for alignment with corporate IDM standards and continual improvement processes.

 

Accessible, accurate, and timely information is meaningful to the success of Teck projects and a critical component of the final asset delivered to our Owner Operators. The core function of this role is Document Control, which is part of the Information and Document Management (IDM) function of the Project Development.

 

To be successful, we are looking for someone with outstanding communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. This position is based in Vancouver, BC, with potential for travel to site, as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Lead all aspects of Document Control, implementing IDM standards, processes and tools on assigned projects.
  • Ensure that project information and documents are handled effectively through the full project lifecycle, including document handover, project close-out, and archiving.
  • Control numbering (document coding), application of metadata, and organization of project documentation.
  • Develop and compose specific project IM plans.
  • Ensure that all Document Registration Requests (DRR) in Aconex are processed and completed within agreed-upon performance targets.
  • Ensure all documents are uploaded, maintained and kept current on the Teck document management system (Aconex) in accordance with company protocols.
  • Ensure accurate document distribution via Aconex workflow module within predefined performance targets.
  • Liaise with contractors on all IDM processes.
  • Regularly generate report document control statistics and status of pending reviews reports within Aconex and distribute to project management.
  • Perform regular transmittal quality checks on contractor/service provider submissions.
  • Conduct regular quality audits in the document register contents and application of IDM standards and procedures.
  • Coordinate, manage, and keep up to date the project distribution matrix.
  • Train users on IDM tools and procedures and provide end-user support.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of document management processes within the overall IDM function.
  • Coordinate and support the development of project information management handover plan and matrix and ensure wide alignment.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as required.


Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Archival Studies, Library and Information Studies, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar Document Control role.
  • Deep proficiency and experience in Information Management and Document Control.
  • Process-driven and able to identify methods to improve overall efficiencies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of the mining and or construction industry is valuable.
  • Similar experience in an Owner’s role is an asset.
  • Experience managing information and documents involving regulatory/government agencies, community engagement, permitting, and environmental baseline studies.
  • Independent and self-motivated with the ability to take initiative.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Power Apps, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe/Nitro PDF.
  • Proficiency in Oracle Aconex - EDMS system.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.

 

Pay Range: CAD $74,000 - $92,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
