Reporting to Executive Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer, the Director, Strategy is responsible for developing and stewarding Strategy at Teck.
The successful candidate will work with the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and Teck’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to put strategy into practice through development and maintenance of value drivers, supporting alignment of business, investor, and financial strategy, and ensuring healthy tension and ambition across Teck. The Director, Strategy will steward Teck's portfolio strategy, champion scenario thinking across the organization, and lead special projects where required.
Qualifications

Over 15 years of relevant experience in positions of rapidly growing responsibility and leadership, with a strong background in planning and implementing strategies

Graduate in Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Strategic Management or equivalent experience

Able to think strategically, combining market and mining industry trends with Teck's strategy and capabilities to drive recommendations

Extensive Leadership experience designing and coordinating strategic projects or programs, including long-term planning. Skilled in developing efficient processes and reliably delivering cross-functional projects

Understands a broad range of technical topics, is able to provide input on a range of tasks whether finance, data, or operations-related
-
Confidently and effectively present innovative and challenging topics to all-levels of the business, building trust, driving collaboration and generating agreement

Change management and communication skills to navigate organizational dynamics and mitigate resistance

Strong personal and professional leadership; possesses credibility to implement optimal engagement with Business Unit leadership

Confirmed ability to build, maintain and develop high-performing teams; able to create environments where accountabilities are clear and potential is developed

Ability to engage with external parties in a manner that protects and advances Teck’s reputation and interests

An effective communicator and collaborative working style based on openness, transparency and mutual respect

Responsibilities

Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures

Lead all aspects of strategy refinement to ensure alignment with program updates, executive leadership direction, and external factors

Develop and maintain a Strategic Roadmap ‘roll-up’ model that includes financial baselines and a value summary of financial impact of major programs and sub-programs

Support Investor Relations and Chief Finance Officer to drive a clear investor narrative that links strategy performance to financial performance

Support CSO, ensuring regular review and alignment of strategic goals and executive ownership

Ensure that critical business decisions take strategy into account, targets are detailed, and deviations from initial plans are identified for review

Responsible for scenario management, working with internal teams to prioritize impact of external environment changes; determining when further attention is required

When required, use insights from the external environment to update scenarios and rollout changes across relevant teams

Support teams in the use of scenarios in decision-making through process management, tools, or other resources

Monitor and assess the level of portfolio risk based on strategy changes

Salary Range: $200,000 - $235,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
