Role Overview

Reporting to the Data Governance Lead, the Data Governance Analyst will support the implementation of our Enterprise Data Governance program. This role will work with business and technology teams to ensure data is accurate, consistent, secure, and effectively governed. The Analyst will contribute to the development and implementation of governance policies, frameworks, and tools while driving adoption across Teck.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental policies and procedures
  • Support enterprise-wide governance initiatives across multiple business functions
  • Engage data owners, stewards, and SMEs to collect and maintain critical data assets
  • Provide reporting and insight to governance leadership and councils
  • Influences the adoption of governance processes across business and technology teams
  • Contribute to the maturity of Teck's data governance capability
  • Assist in the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Teck's data governance framework (policies, standards, stewardship practices)
  • Partner with data owners and stewards to identify and document critical data elements, metadata, lineage, and data definitions
  • Support data quality monitoring by logging issues, tracking remediation, and coordinating with partners to resolve problems
  • Capture, maintain, and improve metadata completeness in governance tools (e.g., MS Purview, Collibra, Informatica)
  • Prepare dashboards and reports on governance activities and critical metrics for review by governance leadership and committees
  • Promote adoption of governance practices by engaging collaborators, answering queries, and providing day-to-day guidance on applying standards
  • Contribute to training sessions, awareness campaigns, and documentation to build data literacy and governance understanding across Teck
  • Stay updated on governance trends, tools, and best practices, and recommend process improvements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of technical experience with at least 3+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related field
  • Proficiency with data governance tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, or Informatica
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess issues, identify root causes, and recommend improvements
  • Capable of balancing multiple priorities, documenting complex processes, and tracking governance initiatives
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication, with the ability to explain governance concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Knowledge of key governance concepts, including metadata management, data lineage, stewardship, and data quality
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, Privacy Act Canada) is an asset
  • Certification in Data Management or Governance (e.g., DAMA CDMP, DCAM) is considered an asset

 

Pay Range: CAD $93,000 - $115,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
