Reporting to the Director, Global Sourcing and Category Management, the Category Manager, Supply Management, is responsible for the management of the chemicals, grinding media, and select wear materials and services supply contracts for specific Teck Resources operating sites. The Category Manager is accountable for administration of supply contracts, focusing on efficient transactions between sites and vendors, providing governance for contracts and related process compliance; and delivery of value-based sourcing opportunities and supply management improvements.

Responsibilities
Contract Management
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor health and safety standards, and sustainability policies.
- Develop chemicals, grinding media and other select wear materials and services category strategies and business cases, establish plans to ensure security of supply, evolve supplier partnerships to drive value and innovation, compile and implement sourcing events, conduct negotiations, and draft and conclude the respective contracts
- Ensure the implemented contracts and supplier management is sustained throughout the course of the contractual term
- Build and foster partnerships with suppliers to ensure clear and concise implementations of the contracts with operating sites
- Collaborate with relevant central and site management and commercial partners to establish demand for products and/or services from annual business plans and longer-term forecasts
- Liaise with suppliers to ensure supply capacity is committed and matched to demand requirements
- Maintain supplier relationships in support of the category and as needed, ensure dispute resolutions are implemented in a timely manner
- Maintain all contract documentation and amendments
Performance Management
- Provide ongoing, overall, contract performance management against the performance-reporting mechanisms, and develop, as needed, KPIs
- Supervise and report actual financial performances (savings), and variances against the original projected savings targets
- Ensure strategic and operational objectives are met, ensuring security of supply, quality and efficacy, and material stewardship
- Monitor relevant supply chains to identify areas of risk and develop and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
Strategic Sourcing and Supply Management Improvements
- Lead the development of the broader chemicals, grinding media and wear materials category portfolio strategy, value creation plans and business cases by providing relevant data, analysis, and opportunity assessments
- Actively explore the wider supply and industry markets to find opportunities that can mitigate supply risk, and provide market intelligence such as new product developments, acquisition impacts, etc.
- Establish understanding of life-cycle costs, identify cost reduction options, and develop value propositions for key commodities
- Prepare for and negotiate new contracts with suppliers and renegotiate contracts that expire
- Participate or lead in special negotiations with supplier partners that arise for situations outside scope of current contracts
- Review and improve supply management capabilities within planning, sourcing, and managing processes at the various operating sites while simultaneously contributing value through the delivery of group supply contracts
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree in a related field (business or technical) and/or SCMP designation.
- Minimum of 12 years of work experience within the mining industry and preferably in a supply management, strategic sourcing or category management role
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of supply management ideally with a balance of experience in planning, sourcing, managing, and improving and sustaining processes
- Significant experience in Category Management, RFx and contract drafting, along with broad technical knowledge of key chemicals, grinding media and wear materials in the mining sector
- Ability to effectively develop and maintain a rapport in an active network of internal and external contacts to access expertise and share knowledge
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills required to interact with various teams to innovate and implement change successfully
- Proficient contract drafting and well-developed communications, presentation, and negotiation skills
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally to operating sites from time to time, and minimally on a quarterly basis

Salary Range: $132,000 - $163,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
