Role Overview

Reporting to the Group Leader, Environmental Monitoring, the Technician, Environmental Monitoring - temporary provides reliable, quality assured environmental data to Teck Metals Ltd. for government agencies and other external parties.

Please note: This position will require the incumbent to participate in a rotating on-call schedule

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Collect and prepare environmental samples for analysis to accepted government standards, Teck procedures, and industry best practice
  • Apply specialized knowledge and skills to set up and perform stack, flue and groundwater monitoring to accepted government standards and written Teck procedures
  • Perform calculations from analytical results and field collected parameters; maintain record-keeping systems including securely recording and retrieving
  • Prepare and submit environmental data and reports to a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Install, repair, rebuild and maintain testing equipment
  • Collaborate with the environmental team to provide guidance to operations in regard to Environmental Management
  • Assist in development of sampling procedures

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in environmental sciences or completion of formal training in environmental monitoring from a recognized institution.
  • Experience in industrial environmental monitoring relevant to Teck Trail Operations or equivalent experience in stack, wells and effluent sampling.
  • Strong knowledge of Trail Operations processes, including equipment and techniques used for air, sewer, and effluent system monitoring.
  • Demonstrated laboratory proficiency in sample preparation, chain of custody and QA/QC requirements, while showing an aptitude towards organization, cleanliness, attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks within a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency in the operation of computer systems including JDE, PDH, LIMS, EQUIS, and a good understanding of Microsoft applications.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to operate mobile elevated work platforms.
  • Experienced with working at heights using fall protection systems, including ladder access to elevated platforms for environmental sample collection
  • Must be physically capable of lifting and transporting sampling equipment.

 

Pay Range: $45.89 /hr

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
