Teck’s Trail Operations, located in the community of Trail in British Columbia, is one of the world’s largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Located in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern, British Columbia, Trail offers outdoor adventure at your fingertips. 

Role Overview

Duration:  8 months 
Start Date: January 2027

 

Minimum Qualifications: Must currently be enrolled in a recognized and accredited Canadian post-secondary institution throughout the duration of the co-op term as a 3rd or 4th year student. You must also be returning to a post-secondary institution after the co-op term is completed. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position (within 100km of Trail, BC), you must be willing to relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.   

For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students pursuing studies in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Procurement, Business, Engineering, Finance, or related fields who are interested in gaining practical experience across warehousing, inventory management, procurement, logistics, and supply chain analytics. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced professionals while contributing to meaningful operational initiatives and a structured capstone project aimed at delivering measurable business value to Trail Operations. 
 
Desired Background: Applicable fields of study include Supply Chain Management, Operations, Procurement, Engineering, Finance/Accounting, Marketing, or a related discipline. The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to collaborate with stakeholders from diverse technical and commercial backgrounds, and a demonstrated willingness to learn and take initiative. 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support inventory analysis activities, including inventory accuracy reviews, excess and obsolete inventory assessments, and identification of inventory optimization opportunities
  • Analyze inventory and consumption data using JD Edwards and Microsoft Excel to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for process improvement
  • Support procurement activities including purchase requisition review, purchase order creation and maintenance, supplier communications, and order expediting
  • Participate in competitive sourcing events, including Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Quotations (RFQ), and Requests for Proposals (RFP), while gaining exposure to supplier evaluation and commercial analysis
  • Assist with contract administration activities, supplier performance tracking, and warehouse replenishment agreements
  • Support logistics and transportation activities through coordination of shipments, tracking deliveries, and working with internal stakeholders and external service providers
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate supply chain performance metrics and insights to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Operations, Maintenance, Finance, and Warehouse teams to support day-to-day business requirements and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Lead an assigned capstone project focused on generating measurable business value through improvements in inventory management, warehousing operations, procurement processes, data analytics, or supply chain efficiency
  • Present project findings, recommendations, and results to Supply Chain leadership at the conclusion of the work term

Qualifications

 

  • To be eligible for a co-op term with Teck, you must be currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration, Commerce or a related degree from an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution, with a focus on Supply Chain Management, Operations, Finance/Accounting, Logistics, Marketing, or a similar field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in using data to support business decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new systems and processes quickly
  • Experience with data analysis, reporting, or process improvement initiatives through coursework, projects, or previous work experience is considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating optimally within a team environment 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships 
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite® of applications: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are a must
  • Exposure to ERP systems such as JD Edwards or SAP is considered an asset but not required

Pay Range: CAD $4,108 - $5,183/month

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
