Role Overview
Teck is looking for an experienced Superintendent, Maintenance Improvement to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Manager, Asset Management, the Superintendent, Maintenance Improvement is accountable for leading the continuous enhancement of maintenance processes across Trail Operations. The incumbent will champion the application of work management, planning, and scheduling processes, and ensure alignment with corporate reliability and operational goals. This role works closely with maintenance execution teams and the reliability engineering group to develop and implement strategies that improve maintenance performance as measured by improved safety, increased equipment reliability, reduced maintenance costs, and improved productivity. A key focus of the role is improving the effectiveness and efficiency of maintenance through improved system usability (technology), standardized master data, and best practice metrics (KPI’s).
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Drive change management initiatives to enhance maintenance work management practices across all business areas
- Execute strategies to standardize maintenance work management functions site-wide
- Ensure the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) supports reliability and maintenance processes
- Oversee and lead a team of Master Data Administrators to ensure quality, consistency, and usability of master data across all maintenance functions
- Drive improvements in system usability and master data quality to support more effective and efficient maintenance planning and execution
- Provide training and coaching in CMMS and maintenance processes to planners, trades, engineers, and maintenance & operations leaders
- Ensure all stakeholders are qualified and supported in their roles using the Reliability and Maintenance processes and systems
- Define, develop, communicate, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for maintenance ensuring KPI alignment with Trail Operations’ overall plan and business priorities
- Support business areas in identifying opportunities for improvement, monitoring activities and reporting results
- Leverage historical maintenance data and real-time analytics to identify trends inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Use JDE planning and scheduling data to monitor trades workforce allocations across Trail Operations based on executable work backlog, planning backlog, and maintenance work schedules
- Work closely with reliability engineering, maintenance execution and operations teams to identify, evaluate, and implement maintenance improvement projects aimed at reducing overall maintenance costs while enhancing asset reliability and availability to meet operational targets
Qualifications
- Technical Diploma, Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificate, Mechanical Engineering Degree, or equivalent technical education
- CMRP and Maintenance Planner certifications are preferred
- 3–5 years of maintenance planning and scheduling experience in a mining or industrial setting
- 6–10 years of supervisory or leadership experience in an industrialized environment
- Experience with CMMS systems (JD Edwards or SAP preferred), including implementation and enhancement
- Change management or change leadership training and experience is preferred
- Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
- Proven ability to lead change and drive continuous improvement
- Ability to balance short-term and long-term maintenance priorities
