Role Overview
Reporting to the Metallurgist within the Processing Group at the Trail Technical Facility, the Sr. Research Technologist (Temporary) will provide experimental data on assigned metallurgical and mineral processing projects at Trail Operations and other Teck Projects and Operations
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Develop and conduct complex experimental research programs under minimal supervision; provide mentoring to Technicians and other personnel during the operation of research pilot plants or while conducting off-site research programs (may not be accompanied by a professional).
- Contribute to technical investigations by providing input into planning of projects and development of a project definition worksheet; prepare reports with recommendations and report to operating superintendent while working at off-site locations.
- Design, construct, operate, and troubleshoot equipment used for laboratory, pilot plant and plant scale process simulations; recommend equipment for laboratory and plants.
- Develop and review new experimental procedures for research projects and new analytical methods to monitor process or reaction being studied.
- Monitor and troubleshoot processes, perform chemical analyses, change variables, record pertinent data and produce written reports evaluating test work and formal documents on projects; recommend action.
- Liaise with Technical & Planning Group personnel, external plant technical personnel and senior Teck Resources staff to provide direction and training in mineral processing test procedures.
- Use knowledge and skills in base metals, coal and oil sands mines to test and analyze ore samples from new deposits; use knowledge of mineralogy and modal analysis techniques in the course of a project.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a recognized Institute of Technology or University in metallurgical, mineral processing, or chemical sciences with 10 or more years relevant work experience
- Minimum of 8 years experience focused on flotation
- Demonstrate familiarity with metallurgical and mineralogical techniques, particularly mineral processing techniques such as flotation, heavy media separation, and classification. Experience with dust emissions mitigation would be an asset
- Possess computer skills including familiarity with MS Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Team player with good communication skills is essential
- Travel to work at other sites is a requirement for this position
Pay Range: $104,160.00 - $112,584.00
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
