Teck is looking for an experienced Safety Coordinator, Health & Safety to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Superintendent, Health and Safety, the Safety Coordinator supports safe execution of work and working environment for the business areas they are assigned to support.

This role is based in the welcoming community of Trail, situated in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Here you will find outdoor adventure at your fingertips! Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Establish and promote the maintenance of a Safe and Healthy working environment and positive safety culture.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of safe working environments by regularly inspecting work areas, reporting on practices and conditions found and following up on issues identified including advising and supporting line management in implementing and maintaining safe working practices.
  • Monitor Health and Safety compliance with all applicable legislation such as Worksafe BC and internal Teck standards.
  • Provide planning support for maintenance turnarounds and projects through completion of hazard risk assessments and development of turnaround/project specific safety plans. Provides support through execution with field compliance monitoring and audits.
  • Lead or assist incident investigations and identify corrective actions 
  • Develop and present safety specific training such as Confined Space Management, Incident Investigation, Hazard Risk Assessment, Contractor Safety and others.
  • Drive continuous improvement for Health & Safety processes and systems
  • Perform Health and Safety audits as part of the internal auditing program
     

Qualifications:

  • College Diploma or University Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent years of relevant industrial experience required
  • 5+ years of Health and Safety experience in a heavy industry environment required
  • The successful candidate will be committed to achieving their Canadian Registered Safety Professional certification 
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Projects or Turnaround experience is an asset

Salary Range: $105,000 - $129,500

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Please note this role does require the successful candidate to live within 100KM of Trail,  British Columbia. Relocation assistance will be offered however there is no camp or company housing.
