Teck is looking for an experienced Procurement Lead to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Procurement Lead is accountable for the efficient operation of the Purchasing Section at the Trail Operations and ensuring that the JDE Purchasing/Warehousing system meets the needs of all users at Trail Operations. 

Additionally, the Procurement Lead negotiates and administers purchasing agreements for major commodities, operating supplies, and projects and is accountable for the strategic business alignment with the Operations and Maintenance groups at Trail Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Ensure the integrity of the automated purchasing system, providing smooth integration of enhancements and troubleshooting system related problems to maintain and improve information and service
  • Manage an assigned set of commodities and contracts ensuring the obligations of all parties are met through to completion; research opportunities to reduce the cost of goods and services; Participate and lead cross-functional teams to  extract maximum value from commercial arrangements while abiding to departmental policies
  • Oversee the research, negotiation, implementation and ongoing administration of various types of agreements with vendors; master supply agreements, warehouse replenishment agreements (contracts) and key operating supply contracts; monitor vendor performance to ensure performance meets/exceeds expectations
  • Monitoring risk potential in the supply chain for critical goods/services for Trail Operations. Identify, prioritize, evaluate, and develop a risk mitigation strategy, and continuous monitoring of supply chain risk. Ensure alignment with Trail Operations Maintenance and Production Operations, support forecasting applications and methodologies for goods and services requirements
  • Manage supply chain logistics for key supply agreements from supplier location to receipt of goods, define material packaging requirements, coordinate/communicate with production/operations as required, define incoming transportation requirements, and coordinates supplier shipping and manufacturing schedules
  • Responsible for resolving supply chain issues related to quality, non-conformance, supplier performance and internal failures. Ensure the effective execution of procurement activities required to support major turnarounds (shutdowns) and major project procurement activities at Trail Operations
  • Supervise the activities of the Buying Group to ensure the quality of purchase orders for the acquisition of goods and services issued are complete in every respect, and clearly outline each party’s obligation; that the legal requirements have been reviewed, and all necessary approvals have been acquired
  • Develop and maintain the expertise of staff by implementing effective training methods, ensuring Buying staff and plant personnel abide by purchasing policies and procedures. Identify and develop continuous improvement opportunities to improve costs and delivery of service for Trail Operations
     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Law, Applied Science or related field is required. A combination of education and Supply Chain Management experience may be considered
  • Completion of the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) Designation, or related education is preferred
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a supply chain related role is required
  • Previous supervisory experience will be an asset
  • Experience at a mining, heavy industry and/or processing facility is preferred
  • Experience working with Purchasing/Warehousing modules of an ERP system and industrial buying/negotiations experience is an asset

Salary Range: $119,000 - $147,000


The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
