Manager, Digital Information Systems


Trail, BC, CA

Reporting to the Controller - Trail Operations, the Manager, Digital  Information Systems is responsible for establishing long term strategic application, information and service plans, roadmaps and information technology innovation initiatives for Trail Operations digital information systems collaboratively with business stakeholders in the context of Teck wide standards/directions and is accountable for the formation and execution of programs/projects to implement these plans/roadmaps.  The position is also accountable for the management, operation, and continuous improvement of the digital information systems  activity and services at Teck Trail Operations and provides support for Trail and several other Teck locations in the improvement and sustainment of JD Edwards ERP systems.


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Develop and implement the strategies for design, deployment, improvement, (including training requirements) and use of JD Edwards ERP applications globally in Teck managed or operated companies and sites.
  • Advise, coordinate and obtain support for the strategy and to ensure the sharing of best practices and system improvements in order to realize increased benefit from the Corporation’s investment in JD Edwards through the interaction with the VP & CIO, Digital Systems and Teck Global users.
  • Develop and execute strategic direction and tactical plan for Trail Digital Information Systems Group to ensure the development and establishment of strategic plans and long-term goals, ensuring consistent application of Trail Operations policies to meet annual targets and bring about a steady improvement in the performance of the business.
  • Ensure the effective management and operation of infrastructure assets (networks, computing, storage, peripheral equipment) and that deployment follow corporate standards through close collaboration and co-ordination of design, deployment and operation with the Director of Infrastructure Programs, TCIS.
  • Contribute to cost control by developing and managing the activity budget,  monitoring and reporting on expenditures, and identifying opportunities to continually reduce operating costs.
  • Develop and initiate digital information technology innovation in collaboration with business stakeholders and Teck Digital Systems corporately
  • Provide leadership and direction to Trail operations in the broad areas of Information Systems Technology through responding to customer enquiries, initiating enhancements and developments to systems and ensuring effective communication with Trail Operations personnel to provide support in improving plant performance and to keep abreast of projects.
  • Develop and manage the suite of  human resource,  enterprise resource planning and other systems supporting Trail Operations and the future application roadmaps & long term plans in the context of overall Teck enterprise standards and applications.
  • Provide project management for planning, design, implementation, training and use of information technology.
  • Develops project staff by: evaluating performance (BSWP), supporting development plans, determining training needs, documenting succession plans and by requesting additional resources as required to make recommendations regarding selection, development, promotion, transfer and/or termination.
  • Performs other related duties as required.



  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science/Information Technology related discipline, or Commerce/ Business with a focus on Management Information Systems.
  • 10 years’ experience in managing information systems, technology or services function
  • Experience in broad systems implementations, enhancement project and organizational change management.
  • Expertise in systems design and delivery, master data management, and data quality monitoring and audit
  • Knowledge of systems development lifecycle and production control processes; ability to conduct and administer quality assurance testing and acceptance.
  • Solutions focused and pragmatic, with a proven ability to deliver process and systems improvements
  • Ability to communicate with others at many levels including front-line staff to senior management
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of emerging technologies and experience with technology innovation projects
