Teck is looking for an experienced Group Superintendent, Raw Materials to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Raw Materials Manager, the Group Superintendent, Raw Materials is accountable for, the coordination of the world-wide delivery of raw materials, fuels, and fluxes to Trail Operations, for providing technical expertise to Teck Metals Ltd. on matters related to sampling, sample preparation and raw materials handling and for the operation and maintenance of the Sampling and Receiving operation, Thaw Sheds and Trail Operations Truck and Rail scales.

Responsibilities:


 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Forecast, Coordinate and monitor the movements of domestic and offshore raw material purchases destined for Trail Operations to meet Trail Operations annual production targets
  • Manage and coordinate the Trail railyard activity and prioritization in cost effective manner to ensure Trail Operations daily production targets 
  • Work closely with Teck Resource's corporate mines (e.g. Red Dog), storage and warehousing service providers, mine suppliers and transportation firms and ensure prompt response to customer, supplier or service provider customer requests or complaints and initiate enhancements in the area of material movement and sampling
  • Ensure safe, well maintained, and cost effective Receiving and Sampling section by setting and meeting objectives, monitoring performance and initiating actions to ensure their objectives are achieved
  • Ensure the integrity of Truck and Rail scale weights for final settlement of purchased raw materials
  • Ensure the effective operation of the Thaw Sheds to minimize production disruptions that may occur as a result of frozen feeds to the operating plants
  • Improve Teck Metals' competitive position by ensuring sampling quality, staying up to date on industry procedures and standards, create or update sampling procedures and ensure employees involved in sampling of feeds are appropriately trained
  • Provide technical assistance for negotiating terms for raw material agreements
  • As a member of the Raw Materials management team, participates in the establishment of short and long-term goals
  • Control costs by preparing and meeting the Receiving and Sampling section budgets
  • Ensure senior management are informed of the operations' status through regular reports
  • Ensure the section complies with all environmental permits and regulations
  • Act as Project Manager for Raw Materials projects affecting Trail Operations
  • Define the roles of employees in meeting objectives to enhance results through the use of performance management, evaluate the performance of employees and recommend the selection, promotion, transfer or termination of personnel
  • Assist in Labour Relations activities by supporting conflict resolution activities and where necessary responding to serious personnel problems
     

Qualifications:

 

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience with raw materials management within the mining sector, including sampling and logistics
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly work processing, and presentation applications
  • Knowledge of environmental and WorkSafeBC regulations

Salary Range: $117,000 - $144,000
 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
 

Please note this role requires the successful candidate to live within 100KM of Trail, British Columbia. Relocation assistance will be offered however there is no camp or company housing.
