Role Overview
Reporting to the Digital Information Systems Manager, the Group Leader, Applications and Information is accountable for the development, implementation and maintenance of business and process information systems at Trail Operations and for providing leadership in people and project management to develop or enhance new and existing systems to provide improved business processes and effective information management.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Act as project/team leader of multiple projects on all aspects of information systems development and maintenance, such as business functions supported by the system, internal design and structure of information systems and the design of databases utilized
- Prioritize projects in conjunction with project sponsors to meet tactical and strategic plan requirements, report to sponsors and management on project status, activities and plan deviations
- Manage the planning, scheduling and control of all tasks and resources for Information System's projects to ensure functions are delivered on time, within budget
- Ensure that systems are available and providing timely information and are meeting the information and business process requirements of our customers
- Work with end-users to discuss the use of systems to improve the productivity of users and the accuracy and integrity of the data maintained on the systems
- Contribute to the success of the Information Systems business unit by participating in the development of the tactical and strategic plans
- Contribute to a cost-effective organization by assisting in the preparation of an annual budget and monitoring section costs
- Ensure well developed and motivated staff through the provision of formal training and self-study opportunities and by assessing performance, recommending placements and administering the collective agreement
- Act as a liaison between the business community, technical team members, vendors, and consultants to ensure delivered solutions address the business need
Qualifications
- A degree in Computer Science or related discipline is required
- Must have 6+ years of continuous applied technical experience, with progressively increasing responsibility, including a team leader role
- Good understanding of Windows server, Windows desktop environment, SQL Server and Azure cloud technologies is an asset
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills suitable for diverse audience
- Excellent technical troubleshooting skills involving diagnosis of potential issues in the underlying environment
- Strong customer focus – meeting and exceeding expectations, resolving issues and developing solutions to meet customer needs
- Good organizational and conceptual skills, attention to details

Pay Range: CAD $119,000 - $147,000 per year
