Role Overview

Reporting to the Fire Captain, the Firefighter performs firefighting, technical rescue, emergency medical and first aid response, hazardous materials response, fire prevention and education, maintenance, and operation of fire and rescue equipment and facilities. The firefighter also acts as a dispatcher in the Teck Emergency Control Center.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and strong commitment toward Trail Operation’s Safety, Hygiene and Environmental policies
  • Must enforce Teck Metals and Government standards and regulations as they apply to Teck Metals’ employees and on-site contractors
  • Work closely with the Health and Safety team in aspects such as site inspections, audits, incident investigation and data gathering
  • Gather and interpret information to make rational and realistic decisions
  • Encourages and facilitates employee ideas for continuous improvement and fosters teamwork
  • Responds to incidents and performs fire-fighting, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, emergency medical response and first aid activities as part of a team
  • Responds to incidents and emergency call-outs that require additional resources outside of normal working hours; may be required to be on-call.
  • Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of fire and rescue equipment and facilities
  • Participates in training and professional development activities
  • Provides fire safety inspections and fire prevention activities
  • May lead small teams in the completion of tasks and training
  • Provides fire and rescue services, public education, and participates in public relations activities
  • Participates in committee work to provide programs for maintenance and long-term asset management
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with other firefighters and external response stakeholders including, Ambulance, Police, Municipal Fire Departments, non-government organizations and other agencies in the course of duty
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties

Qualifications

  • NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter Level II (Full-Service Operations Firefighter)
  • Valid BC Class 3 & 4 Drivers License with Air Brakes Endorsement
  • Advanced First Aid (previously OFA3) or Licensed EMR
  • NFPA 1006 Confined Space Rescue, Technician Level (preferred)
  • NFPA 470 Hazardous Materials Response, Technical Level (preferred)
  • NFPA 1006 High Angle Rope Rescue, Technician Level (preferred)
  • NFPA 1051 SPP-WFF1 Wildland Firefighter Level I (preferred)
  • NFPA 1006 Vehicle Rescue/Extrication, Operations or Technician Level (preferred)
  • NFPA 1002 Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) (preferred)
  • Knowledge and adherence to the USW Collective Agreement and associated Letters of Understanding
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize your own work as well as the work of others
  • Knowledge of Teck Metals and Government standards and regulations as they apply to Teck Metals’ employees and on-site contractors is required
  • Good oral and written communication skills and promotes open communication and demonstrates respect for others
  • Maintains a level of physical fitness to meet all job requirements
  • Has a strong work ethic and sets high standards of performance for self and work team
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability and willingness to learn

Requirements

  • Successful Completion of a Pre-Employment Functional Assessment
  • Successful Completion of a Post-Offer Employment Physical Test (POET)

 

Pay Range: CAD $36.56 - $49.42 /Hour

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
