Role Overview

Reporting to the Superintendent, HR Planning & Talent Management, the Advisor, Human Resources plays a key role in supporting workforce planning, recruitment, talent development, and HR operations at Trail Operations.

 

This role partners closely with leaders and employees to deliver practical HR solutions, ensure compliance with policies and collective agreements, and support a wide range of HR programs including succession planning, performance management, compensation, and HRIS processes.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhering to and sponsoring safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide guidance and advice across recruitment and employee movement processes for union and non-union roles, including selection support, interview participation, and resolution of complex or escalated hiring issues
  • Lead the succession planning process by actively participating in management meetings and staying informed about labor needs, providing essential insights to aid in short-term and long-term planning. Ongoing development and improvement of the process
  • Partner with leaders to support employee development, including participation in leadership programs and identifying development opportunities
  • Prepare and deliver offers, complete compensation analysis, and support onboarding processes for new hires and internal movements
  • Manage promotions, transfers, and acting assignments, including drafting documentation and ensuring required approvals are in place
  • Ensure compliance with applicable collective agreements, employment standards, and regulatory requirements, including professional designation obligations where applicable
  • Maintain and support HRIS (SAP) processes, including reviewing and approving hires, employee changes, leaves, and terminations, while ensuring data accuracy and integrity
  • Generate and analyze regular and ad hoc HR reports
  • Support annual performance and compensation cycles, including data analysis, leader coaching, and ensuring timelines and processes are met
  • Conduct job evaluations and maintain accurate, up-to-date job descriptions to reflect evolving organizational needs
  • Provide day-to-day HR advisory support to leaders and employees on employee relations matters, including union considerations, workplace concerns, and policy interpretation
  • Support broader HR initiatives, process improvements, and project work as required
  • Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of progressive Human Resources experience
  • Degree in Human Resources or Business/Administration with HR focus is preferred, or experience combined with education
  • Experience supporting recruitment, compensation, and performance management
  • Strong understanding of HR systems (e.g., SAP) and data management
  • Knowledge of employment legislation and experience working in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office Suite applications)
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of confidentiality

Pay Range: CAD $95,000 - $118,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
