Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Logistics and HSEC Applications, the ABAP Developer – SAP Finance Support is responsible for ensuring that SAP-based ECC systems within their portfolio effectively support financial and sales processes. This portfolio enables Teck to process critical financial and sales transactions for refined metals and concentrates produced in North and South America and is essential to achieving accurate and timely cash flow forecasts.

Working closely with business stakeholders and ERP functional teams, this role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining ABAP programs that ensure transactional integrity, enhance system functionality, and support SAP application access and security. The ABAP Developer identifies areas for improvement in SAP applications and contributes to the development of custom solutions, enhancements, and system upgrades to better meet the needs of the Finance and Marketing & Logistics organizations.

This role requires strong ABAP programming skills, particularly in support of the Sales & Distribution (SD) and Finance (FI) modules, along with a solid understanding of finance, sales, and accounting business processes.

This position is a contract position for one year with potential for extensions.

Responsibilities

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Develop and maintain SAP programs and configuration to meet evolving business requirements of Base Metals Sales and Marketing, including ABAP programming and configuration in modules FI, CO, SD, MM, QM, WMS and other areas in industry solution IS-Mine.
• Enhance and support SAP financial accounting processes for multiple company codes, business areas and currencies.
• Analyze current business processes in SAP for efficiency and effectiveness. Recommend changes in configuration for continuous improvement.
• Provide guidance to developers in improving SAP business processes and troubleshooting problems.
• Work with business users and process experts to identify and implement solutions.
• Engage with business units to manage and achieve service expectations.
• Assist in development of training programs and provide training to end users to ensure all procedures are understood.
• Contribute to development of action plans and deployment for orderly introduction and integration of new or upgraded systems.
• Lead and train the team of business function leaders for tier-1 system support.
• Lead SAP projects with team members and users across different functional areas.

Qualifications

• College/University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• 7+ years of experience in SAP ABAP development or supporting enterprise SAP applications through custom solutions.
• SAP knowledge and experience:
  • Demonstrated capabilities in developing and supporting SAP financial systems with accounting knowledge.
  • Hands-on SAP ABAP development expertise, including reports, enhancements, interfaces, forms (RICEF), and user exits.
  • Working knowledge of SAP FI (Financial Accounting) modules and SD (Sales & Distribution)
  • Experience developing or supporting SAP IS-MINE is considered an asset.
• Strong understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall), project implementation, and the full application lifecycle.
• Experience with SAP system integrations, custom application development, and data management within the ECC.
• Exposure to the mining and base metals industry, particularly in sales or finance processes, is an asset.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive and strategic mindset.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Spanish-speaking capability is an asset.
