Teck's two regional business units, North America and Latin America, oversee Teck's assets through all phases of safe, sustainable development, operation and closure. The business units are supported by enterprise-wide functions that set strategic direction, establish standards and provide governance, as well as supporting the business through shared services, centers of excellence and business partnering.

 

Reporting to the Vice President, Marketing & Logistics, Base Metals, the Director, Copper Marketing is responsible for maximizing corporate profits and developing a marketing strategy for the global sales of products related to Teck’s copper assets and projects. The marketing strategy is to be aligned with our Corporate Sustainability focus on Material Stewardship.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Primary negotiator for the long-term sale of Teck’s copper concentrates to smelters globally.
  • Provide commercial support in negotiations for spot sales of copper and molybdenum concentrate.
  • Develop and implement sales and marketing strategies for Teck operating mine assets and joint venture partnerships.
  • Primary responsibility to develop and implement a marketing strategy for new copper projects, any brownfield expansions, and working with business development.
  • Plan and implement strategies to maximize sales volumes and margins while minimizing credit risk, hedging exposure and inventory, and protecting the company from market vulnerability.
  • Provide marketing and sales support for all Teck marketing activities, including administrative support.
  • Support operations and the logistics group for efficient and cost-effective scheduling and product delivery.
  • Contribute to Teck’s long-term strategy by identifying and developing profitable new business/customers by advising the business unit and senior operations management on product sales issues.
  • Provide effective leadership to, and coordination of the copper sales and marketing function through effective planning and management of staff and resources.
  • Manage direct reports both in Canada and Chile and work collaboratively with Teck’s Shanghai office, engaging in daily interactions with logistics and sales administration. 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, metallurgy, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in metals marketing, trading, or commercial strategy, preferably in copper or base metals.
  • Experience working across jurisdictions (e.g., North America, Latin America, Asia).
  • Familiarity with sustainability frameworks and responsible sourcing standards.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and present to executive audiences.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and comfort in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
  • Leadership:Ability to identify, develop, and implement marketing and sales strategies globally. Lead a commercial team to meet group objectives. Develop processes to manage the business within the group and through interactions with other departments. Manage personnel performance and development.
  • Industry knowledge: Deep understanding of global copper markets, pricing mechanisms, and customer dynamics. Understanding of the commercial aspects of the worldwide copper/molybdenum mining, smelting, and refining business. Understanding of the technical aspects of issues surrounding the mines and smelters from development through commissioning and of the smelting process and the implications of concentrate quality to these processes. Analyze future market trends and adapt marketing strategies accordingly. General industry knowledge of other commodities that interact with copper assets, such as nickel, molybdenum, and sulfuric acid.
  • Business Knowledge:Comprehensive understanding of commercial business aspects of raw material sales, particularly copper and molybdenum concentrates. Proficiency in transportation, financial, and netback analysis. Working knowledge of contract law to facilitate negotiation, contract drafting, and execution.
  • Negotiating Skills: Advanced proficiency in negotiating contractual agreements at a senior level. Strong analytical and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Communication:  Effective ability to collect and disseminate information within various company departments, including market trends, supply/demand analysis, customer insights, and business opportunities. Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Technical Proficiency:  Engineering and operations background to support Materials Stewardship processes related to products and customers.

Pay Range: CAD $194,000 - $240,000 per year
