Role Overview

 

Reporting to the Manager, Sales Operations & Compliance, the Specialist, Sales Operations & Compliance is responsible for executing, documenting, and supporting Sales Operations’ internal controls, performing independent reviews, and preparing audit evidence and compliance reporting in support of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX), ISO 9001 and related audit activities. Overall accountability for control ownership, remediation, and governance remains with the Manager.

 

The Specialist, Sales Operations & Compliance collaborates with various internal teams, engages with external stakeholders and supports accurate, timely, and consistent operational and compliance reporting through the preparation, analysis, and maintenance of control monitoring reports, exception tracking, and audit support documentation. This position contributes to enhanced oversight, informed decision‑making, and adherence to regulatory and internal governance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader by adhering to and sponsoring safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Perform and document independent secondary reviews of sales invoices within scope, validating contractual terms, pricing, quantities, weights, assays, and shipment/delivery dates.
  • Review and approve SOX documentation packages for deliveries, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance prior to invoice issuance.
  • Manage Sales Operations’ standard operating procedures (SOP), ensuring processes are clearly documented, kept up to date, and aligned with SOX requirements, internal controls, and actual operating practices.
  • Support internal and external audits by gathering required documentation and ensuring audit readiness.
  • Support and execute month‑end close activities by coordinating the timely completion, review, and approval of all sales invoices and related SOX documentation, minimizing post‑close adjustments.
  • Manage and maintain vessel summaries, ensuring accuracy and consistency with contractual terms.
  • Act as a key SAP resource for Sales Operations by supporting control execution, documentation retention, and process standardization within SAP SD (sales & distribution) module.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the Letters of Credit (LC) negotiation process by analyzing root causes of LC discrepancies, implementing preventive controls and standardized documentation practices, and acting as a subject matter expert (SME) to reduce negotiation delays, financial risk, and operational inefficiencies. This includes monitoring LC expiry dates and value changes.
  • Enhance Sales Operations’ key performance indicators (KPI) reporting by improving data accuracy and accessibility, and developing dashboards and automated reports that support strategic decision‑making, operational transparency, and the identification, monitoring, and mitigation of operational and compliance risks.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize Sales Operations and customer service, and improve efficiency, accuracy, and control effectiveness in sales contract execution.
  • Design and implement Power Automate solutions to streamline SOX control execution, invoice review workflows, reporting, and documentation retention, reducing manual effort, cycle times, and operational risk.
  • Assist in the continuous development, review, update, and implementation of Teck’s sales policies and procedures.

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience working with customers in a B2B environment, preferably within commodities, metals, mining, or logistics‑driven industries.
  • A college or university degree in business or equivalent is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with SAP SD (sales & distribution) module & Microsoft Suites including Power BI and Power Automate preferred.
  • Experience in SAP IS-Mine solution is an asset.
  • Experience with or exposure to SAP S/4HANA implementation is considered a strong asset, particularly in the context of marketing, logistics, and Sales Operations.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize activities to meet both internal and external deadlines.
  • Highly developed listening and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders including customers, employees, and internal departments.
  • Self-starter with a proven ability to multitask under minimal supervision.
  • A strong team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong English proficiency, both written and verbal communication, with the ability to express themselves in a concise fashion.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to health, safety and sustainability.
  • Ability to travel within Canada and internationally as required.

 

Pay Range: CAD $68,000 - $84,000 per year

 

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
