The Surface Crew’s progression operates heavy equipment for the mine department following all safety regulations and procedures outlined by the company including Trash Trucks, Bus, 966 Fork Lift, Bull Fork, Tractor/Trailer, Telescoping Forklift, 1T 38 Tool Handler Fork Lift, Bull 45T Forklift, Tractor Broom, Dump Truck with Sander/20” Plow/Belly Blade, Snow Blowers (966 attachment and truck type), 966 Push Blade, Aircraft Deicing Truck, Road Grader, Dozer, Tractor with belly pump/water tanker/high deck trailer/20T tilt trailer.

Reporting to the Surface Crew Supervisor

Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks on-site and 2 weeks off-site

Responsibilities:

  • Establish understanding and complete training in the operation of Trash Truck, Bus, 966 Forklift, and Bull Fork under close supervision of a trainer or a more senior Surface Operator
  • Responsible for completing basic paperwork such as timesheets and walk around inspection forms and condition of equipment reports
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and have the willingness to learn and advance through the Surface Operators progression
  • Communicate effectively with other operators, colleague and supervisor about assigned tasks and ensuring carryover and updates of completed tasks throughout the shift
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards as well as complies with safety policies and procedures (MSHA and Red Dog EMS training) and ensures daily workplace inspections are done in order to accurately identify and correct workplace hazards
  • Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and advises coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Drivers’ License
  • Able to obtain a Commercial Driver License within 60 days of employment
  • Able to lift objects weighing 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Prior mining or similar experience preferred
  • Strong team cooperation is required
  • Ability to perform tasks with limited direction
  • Work safely and follow instructions
  • Willing to work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions 
  • A desire to advance to higher levels in the competency development system by training and becoming proficient at specific tasks and duties in the Surface Operations department
