Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Mine Maintenance, the Maintenance Training Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and advancing all technical training and apprenticeship programs that support the Mine Maintenance workforce. This role ensures that apprentices, journeypersons, mentors, and supervisors receive accurate, regulatory‑aligned, and operationally relevant training. The Supervisor leads competency management, ensures compliance with regulatory and Red Seal standards, and drives continuous improvement in training quality and delivery. Collaboration with supervisors, trainers, and external authorities is essential to maintaining a skilled and future‑ready workforce.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Maintain crew-level competency matrices across all Maintenance roles.
  • Develop and manage annual workforce plans and six-week routine training plans.
  • Identify future skill gaps aligned with operational and long-range planning.
  • Manage the full apprenticeship lifecycle from onboarding through certification.
  • Track apprentice hours, evaluations, progression, and rotation schedules.
  • Liaise with supervisors, mentors, and apprenticeship authorities to support apprentice development.
  • Maintain all regulatory, compliance, and Red Seal apprenticeship documentation.
  • Create and manage training access and work orders within Maximo.
  • Ensure training records in the LMS remain accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
  • Coordinate external training vendors and monitor training effectiveness.
  • Supervise onsite and offsite trainers to ensure consistent delivery standards.
  • Support mentors and journeypersons in coaching and technical skill development.
  • Deliver training sessions as required to support operational needs.
  • Develop and maintain assessment tools including practical, written, and OJT evaluations.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness using performance data, audits, and feedback, adjusting programs as needed.

Qualifications

  • Red Seal or Journeyperson certification in a relevant trade (e.g., Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician, Electrician, Welder, Automotive/Heavy Equipment).
  • 5–7+ years of experience in mining, heavy industry, or similar maintenance environments.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance processes, equipment systems, and safety standards.
  • Experience mentoring apprentices and supporting workforce skill development.
  • Proven ability to coordinate training programs, records, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with Maximo or comparable maintenance management systems.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with external training vendors and regulatory bodies.
  • Adult education, trainer certification, or facilitation training considered an asset.
  • Ability to balance operational priorities with long-term workforce development.

Pay Range: CAD $106,000 - $131,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
