Teck's Anchorage office is home to an administrative team supporting our Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest zinc mines, which is operated under an innovative agreement between Teck and landowner NANA, a Regional Alaska Native corporation owned by the Iñupiat of northwest Alaska.
Role Overview
The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for key accounting functions, including assigned areas of the month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting, while providing oversight of accounts payable and payroll operations.
Position will be based in Anchorage; work schedule will be Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Reporting to the Lead, General Accounting
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Close
• Own assigned areas of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close
• Prepare and review journal entries in accordance with GAAP and company policies
• Prepare, review, and resolve balance sheet account reconciliations
• Analyze variances and investigate accounting issues affecting financial statements
• Ensure timely, accurate, and complete financial information
Payroll & Accounts Payable Supervision
• Provide oversight of payroll and accounts payable activities to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
• Review and approve payroll and AP related journal entries, reconciliations, and payment runs
• Ensure payroll and AP clearing accounts are properly reconciled and resolved
• Review quarterly payroll tax filings, including Form 941
• Ensure government reporting is completed timely and accurately (1099, 1042, W2, T4s, and ESTMA)
• Monitor payroll controls and compliance within SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll
Leadership & Coordination
• Provide direction, review, and feedback to accounting staff
• Promote consistency, accountability, and quality across accounting processes
• Partner with HR, Operations, Corporate head office, and other internal stakeholders as needed
Systems & Process Support
• Support accounting activities during ERP system transition to SAP S/4HANA
• Collaborate with HRIS and Payroll system teams on payroll-related system issues, testing, defect resolution, and enhancement requests
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and strengthen internal controls
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience
• Minimum of 2 years of accounting supervisory / leadership experience
• Strong understanding of month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
• Knowledge of payroll accounting and payroll tax compliance
• ERP system experience and advanced Excel skills
Preferred
• Experience with SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll or SAP payroll environments
• CPA or CPA candidate
• Public accounting experience in audit or tax
• SAP systems experience, including S/4HANA and SuccessFactors
• Experience in mining, manufacturing, or industrial environments
