Role Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Operations & Maintenance Execution, the incumbent oversees mine operations, mobile maintenance, airport operations, and the port road. The role ensures integrated, safe, and efficient execution across all areas while building a capable, high‑performing team. The position supports and advances the Management Operating System (MOS), ensuring operational discipline, clear accountability, and continuous improvement are embedded throughout the department.

The rotation schedule for this opportunity will be 2 weeks on-site with 1 week off-site.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader and model behaviors that establish a culture where everyone feels responsible for their safety and the safety of others
  • Coach and develop direct reports to ensure safe work practices are embedded before, during, and after task execution
  • Oversee team development, performance management, training, and succession planning across all supervised functional areas
  • Manage the safe execution of mine operations and maintenance to meet shift plans and ensure assets are operated within design specifications
  • Ensure work is planned, risks are managed, and critical controls are in place and validated
  • Review, provide input to, and approve weekly, monthly, and quarterly plans to ensure alignment with operational constraints and performance
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to identify and implement productivity, cost, and safety enhancements
  • Support the ongoing implementation, sustainment, and continuous improvement of the Management Operating System at Red Dog
  • Ensure MOS practices—including structured daily/weekly reviews, short-interval control, and KPI monitoring—are embedded across the department
  • Coach frontline leaders on MOS tools and processes to build capability and reinforce operational processes
  • Support variance management processes and collaborate with the integrated production team on response plans and improvement actions
  • Participate in Opex and Capex budget development and manage costs across mining, maintenance, airport, and port road operations
  • Manage the inspection, maintenance, and operation of the port access road, which is used for transporting fuel, freight, and concentrate
  • Oversee safe, compliant, and efficient operations of the site airport, including runway maintenance, runway conditions, aircraft movements, and passenger logistics
  • Ensure all airport activities comply with applicable aviation regulations, Teck aviation standards, and emergency response protocols
  • Provide rotational leadership coverage for the Manager, O&ME, as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field applicable to mining or mining-related disciplines, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Fifteen (15) years working in an industrial environment with strong knowledge of surface mining operations and/or heavy equipment maintenance
  • Experience in managing operational teams and working in high-pressure situations
  • Highly motivated team player with the ability to develop strong relationships across multiple operational disciplines
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner, adapting messaging for stakeholders at all levels in the business
  • Strong capability in evaluating business targets and execution plans, applying analytical rigor to identify the critical path, validate underlying assumptions, and ensure operational decisions are aligned with plan delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor team members to enhance their capabilities, strengthen performance, and prepare them for future roles through structured succession planning
  • Demonstrated ability to improve operations and team performance
  • Exhibit courageous leadership in guiding a variety of situations
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly in spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation applications
