Program Manager, Environmental Projects

Reporting to the Director, Environment, UCR, the Program Manager, Environmental Projects is responsible for project management activities and oversight supporting the implementation and completion of the Upper Columbia River (UCR) remedial investigation and feasibility study (RI/FS) as well as other environmental projects as needed. The Program Manager will ensure that projects are handled with the overall goals of safety, environmental stewardship and corporate responsibility to maintain and enhance the company’s reputation.

 

The wage scale for this job is $113,000 - $139,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.

 

This Teck American Incorporated (TAI) full-time, regular position provides the employee (and their eligible dependents) a comprehensive flexible benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance.  The employee is also covered by Long Term Disability insurance and is able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan.  In this position, the employee will accrue a minimum of 10 days of vacation leave and 12 paid sick days (1 per month) throughout the calendar year.  There are ten paid holidays per year.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures

  • Lead, develop and implement project plans and schedules while working in a collaborative and close partnership with the Manager, Environment, Upper Columbia River

    • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and Teck’s sustainability, health and safety guidelines

    • Monitor project's progress and performance, anticipate project needs or potential challenges and implement solutions to keep the project on track

    • Lead field and technical consultants, laboratories, and other vendors to ensure and monitor compliance to project plans and coordinate resource allocations

    • Projects or activities include field work, completion of technical studies and reports, ecological risk assessment, field studies and assessment, and completion of the Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study (RI/FS), and other potential projects

  • Oversee and prepare project budgets and refine as needed to ensure timeliness and fiscal responsibility

  • Regularly update collaborators on project progress and plans, addressing any issues or delays promptly and serving as the central point of contact between the contract’s administrator, legal department, and environment team

  • Support engagement, prepare presentations and liaise with EPA, Tribes, State, and DOI project managers, citizens’ group and public forum members regarding the UCR Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study and other projects as necessary

  • Research, assess and disseminate updated regulatory laws, relevant information and best practices by reviewing government publications, community developments, mining industry association bulletins, and business and environmental group publications for information impacting the projects

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Geology or related field

  • Minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience leading large environmental assessment and/or cleanup projects required

  • Excellent communication, organization, time-management, critical thinking and leadership skills

  • Demonstrable experience leading CERCLA-level risk assessments and risk assessment technical teams

  • Ability to complete projects on time and within stated budget with minimal direction

  • PMP certification is considered an asset

  • Leadership experience is essential

  • Environmental regulatory agency and stakeholder interaction experience required

  • Must be comfortable making informed decisions on behalf of the Company

  • Active participation in local, regional and/or national professional organizations

  • Solid understanding of US EPA and Washington state regulations impacting assessment and remediation required
