Land Lead

Reporting to the Manager, US Land & Assets, the Land Lead position is responsible for maintaining rights, titles, and associated interests in real properties under consideration for some types of resource exploration, development, or extraction, researching land ownership, creating title chains, summarizing agreement obligations, curing ownership interest in land, water, and mineral resources, performing administrative tasks and fulfilling certain legal responsibilities to ensure compliance with governmental rules and regulations.  Daily tasks will include assisting in the maintenance of land obligations, data organization, records management, research and performing other necessary tasks as assigned.  Work also includes the maintenance of large and complex filing systems, which may require limited administrative discretion. 


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to legal standards and regulations provided
  • Cure errors and omissions on a lease, title, or contract
  • Research and provide documentation of leases, rights-of-way, joint ventures, and other types of agreements
  • Perform in-house title information gathering, organizes and analyzes title documents to assess rights information, and performs internal title updates
  • Create the correspondence to government agencies and property owners
  • Prepare and present reports to upper managers on the status of rights acquisition
  • Assist in the annual maintenance of current land assets
  • Generate check requests
  • Monitor and update land records by closing outstanding obligations
  • Input land data into the land records system
  • Process other monthly land and permit based obligations
  • Provide support to various departments within the organization that require information from the land records
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees
  • Assist in the transfer and curation of historic digital records
  • Work with Records Management group on document retention and destruction
  • Audit and scan historical paper documents to coincide with digital documents
  • Collaborate on data and record storage decisions and best practices
  • Maintain files and records with effective filing systems
  • Utilize database programs and run data queries
  • Execute secure and effective data procedures
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity of data
  • Collect and extract data from records for various reports; submit data to be tabulated; check tabulated data for accuracy and completeness
  • Utilize company resources to complete given responsibilities
  • Complete work with a sense of ownership and pride in performance
  • Take on new challenges, activities, and responsibilities


  • Familiarity with Landfolio, Access and/or SharePoint is preferred
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or an industry-relevant two-year technical degree
  • Applicants from Professional Landman Certificate programs are preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with natural resource management/environmental protection issues
  • Knowledge and/or experience with a contract, business, or property management
  • Experience interpreting and implementing guidelines, regulations, and laws
  • Experience providing effective and timely customer service
  • Experience negotiating contentious issues in a respectful, responsive, and informed manner
  • Experience speaking to the public and writing clearly and succinctly with the use of typical office software
  • Experience collaborating on internal and external issues in an active, respectful, cooperative, and professional manner

  • Proficient computer abilities, including advanced skills in MS Office Suite of programs

  • Experience creating and modifying digital and hardcopy filing formats and procedures
  • Ability to read and summarize documents of a regulatory, administrative, or legal nature
  • Ability to recognize and maintain the confidentiality of records concerning various business-related terms
  • Able to document, record and generate procedures related to repetitive, time-bound tasks, documentation of institutional knowledge
  • Able to research, analyze and report on regulatory actions and changes
  • Ability to work well under pressure and balance priorities while advancing multiple projects simultaneously
