Senior Supervisor, Mine and Water Planning

Reporting to the Manger, Water Integrated Planning, the Senior Supervisor, Mine and Water Planning is accountable for leading the development, implementation, and adaptive management of the overall strategy for integration with mine and water planning with water quality and quantity to support the execution of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan.

 

To be successful, we require someone with outstanding strategy development and communication skills, who can effectively collaborate with partners at all levels across the organization and with external stakeholders. We are looking for a motivated self starter, who can work under minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment and manage several priorities including leading change and making recommendations. Advanced analytical, problem solving, and decision-making abilities are vital for success.

 

This is an exciting chance to work collaboratively with different departments and specialists dedicated to sustainable mining in the Elk Valley surrounding our four open-pit metallurgical coal mines, with a particular focus on mine planning, water quality, and full life cycle to support the overall health of regional aquatic ecosystems.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide overall leadership and accountability to integrate water considerations into the mine and water management plans and provide water quality, quantity, and compliance guidance 
  • Develop strategies and make recommendations for integrating regional water mitigation plans with site mine and water management plans to address water treatment risks and opportunities
  • Oversee all mine water management plans and provide updates due to new information or changes to regulatory commitments and conditions
  • Oversee preparation and prepare technical reports, presentations, and external communications 
  • Proactively manage emerging risks and leverage opportunities 
  • Lead key decision-making processes for mine and water planning
  • Advise on mine and water planning processes, mitigation costs, economics, designs, plans, and guidelines
  • Direct, coach, and mentor a team of 9 professionals
  • Advise and be accountable for the annual business planning cycle for the Water Strategy team including life of mine and 5–10-year mine plans
  • Support the identification, development, and integration of RACE™ novel ideas using technology to lead associated initiatives and incorporate emerging technologies into strategic plans 
  • Incorporate adaptive management framework to reduce uncertainty, adapt, learn, and adjust
  • Update and submit annual regulatory water and nitrogen management plans

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering or Science in mining, environment, water, or related field
  • Professional designation in a related field (P. Eng, P. Geo, P. Bio) or eligible for designation required
  • Minimum ten years in mine planning, water management and or project management
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience
  • Experience in mine planning, costing, economics, and water management
  • Strategic business planning and decision-making experience would be an asset
