Join our Water Quality Management team as they work to ensure the health of the local watershed, guided by the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan! 


The Senior Lead, Improvement Initiatives is responsible for contributing and working collaboratively across the Sustainable Development team to prioritize and develop management strategies and plans for emerging opportunities, uncertainties and challenges related to water quality, flow, and aquatic life.


To be successful, we require someone with excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, along with the ability to communicate change and gain alignment through outstanding relationship building. This person will enjoy collaborating closely with subject matter experts. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, has strong analytical skills, and has a proactive approach to finding solutions.


This is an exciting opportunity to lead continuous improvement and sustainable development in the environmental field. You will be key to the team's success as we progress towards sustainable mining in the Elk Valley.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Research and deploy tools that link next generation environmental stewardship and mining developments
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams through all phases of project design, integration, and execution both on site and throughout the business unit
  • Establish relationships with key partners through regular dialogue and coordinated work sessions
  • Identify, develop, and implement novel ideas using technology to lead associated initiatives for sustainable development in mine planning and water quality management
  • Incorporate an adaptive management approach to ensure effective management of change processes are employed
  • Engage and advance the culture of continual improvement through all layers of the organization within the Sustainability domain



  • Engineering or Science degree in an environmental-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum ten years’ experience providing technical and strategic direction on operational water related risks and challenges associated with resource management 
  • Experience supervising or leading a team
  • Technical knowledge of federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations
