Senior Environmental Coordinator

Sparwood, BC, CA

Reporting to the Superintendent of Environment, the Senior Environmental Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership to support environmental programs, compliance management, regulatory reporting, permitting, and continuous improvement of site and regional environmental performance initiatives.

 

To be successful we are looking for someone with excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, who is able to mentor and lead the efforts of a team of professionals. Someone who will thrive in a fast paced environment with minimal direction, but also works well collaborating with a team. Someone with strong analytical, problem solving, decision-making, and technical writing revision skills.

 

In this role you will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with regulatory agencies, Indigenous groups, and communities of interest, building and maintaining positive relationships. Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Supervise Environmental Leads and support management of site Environment teams, contractors, and consultants
  • Develop and lead corrective action plans and sustainability initiatives inclusive of continuous improvement activities
  • Support continued certification of ISO14001, as well as leading internal and external audits
  • Implement and maintain environmental operational controls, such as Management Plans, Standard Practices and Procedures, and efficiency reviews
  • Support development and execution of budgets and maintain strong cost control
  • Manage compliance to all legal and other requirements and contribute to various reports to meet provincial and federal requirements and corporate commitments and initiatives

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or other related field
  • Minimum 10 years demonstrated ability working in an environmental management capacity
  • Minimum three years supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Professional designation in a relevant field would be an asset
  • Strong technical writing, presenting, data analysis, and reporting skills
  • Solid understanding of environmental management practices and systems related to water quality, water use, air, waste, and biology (fish, birds, mammals, reptiles, vegetation)
  • Strong understanding of provincial and federal regulatory processes applicable to a large natural resource industry
