Senior Electronics Technician

Reporting to the General Supervisor, Field, the Senior Electronics Technician is responsible for maintaining mobile telecommunications systems such as mine dispatch, two-way radios, camera systems, mobile equipment monitoring connectivity, shovel payload systems, and other similar systems to maximize system performance. This position will also be responsible to provide development support to various improvement projects including Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and drill Global Positioning System upgrades.

This is a supervisory role as there will be two direct Electronics Technician reports, as well as contractor support when required. The Senior Electronics Technician is also expected to perform work themselves.

This role follows a 5x2 EDO days schedule; however, is subject to change depending on operational requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Run a two person crew of electronics technicians and any required contractor resources
  • Ensure safely working at heights on communication equipment
  • Ensure constant and reliable security and availability of Wifi network
  • Installation, commissioning, and maintaining a variety of electronics equipment such as Wenco system, tire monitor systems, GPS, sleep detection system, shovel payload system, camera systems, 2way repeaters, flow meters, and machine monitoring systems and software
  • Develop best practices, job procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines as required
  • Perform thermography inspections on equipment using IR camera, generate reports and recommendations as required
  • Participate in and lead other maintenance and reliability initiatives as required
  • Handle multiple conflicting priorities, including unscheduled work, prioritize resources and tasks appropriately, and communicate clearly to the appropriate stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • Electronics/Electrical Engineering Technician diploma, or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum seven years’ experience in heavy industry, preferably mining. Minimum three of these years in a supervisory capacity
  • PLC programming experience
  • Strong computer skills, proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite®, with the ability to learn various types of software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including identifying the appropriate stakeholders and adjusting communication style to suit
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
