Mine Engineer

Sparwood, BC, CA

Reporting to the Senior Engineer Supervisor, the Mine Engineer is responsible for working with a group of professionals to support the mining operations. This position follows a Monday to Friday Earned Day Off schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Develop safe, optimized, and credible mine plans that align with Teck’s safety culture, sustainability strategy, environmental commitments, strengthens relationships with stakeholders, reduces risk, increases shareholder confidence, and is integrated with the other Teck business areas
  • Work in wide ranges of mine planning and design, including pit and dump design, traditionally operated and autonomous fleets, production scheduling, and optimization
  • Analyze big data to influence faster, better decision making for the site
  • Integrate water quality, biodiversity goals, community values and indigenous perspective supporting sustainable mine planning and Industry stewardship
  • Perform economic evaluations, productivity analyses, and peer reviews
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies
  • Manage mine development projects
  • Track and report compliance to mine permits

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering or equivalent
  • Registered with, or eligible to register within two years, as a Professional Engineer with Engineering and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC)
  • Two to five years previous work experience in a mining environment; previous experience in open pit, truck, and shovel operations an asset
  • Strong computer skills; experience with any of Power BI, Minesight, XPAC Solutions, or COMET considered an asset
  • Preference given to individual with a demonstrated understanding of MatLab, Python, and programming using C language
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Must be positive, motivated, and forward thinking
  • Able to excel in a team based environment and is a proponent of positive change through innovative technology and thinking
